First off, my sympathies to anyone who hasn't been able to book rooms at the Renaissance for the upcoming SPAH convention.

When it comes to seeking alternatives, your priorities may run to being close by (or having a good transit connection), finding something inexpensive, with possibly a concern for quality, in addition to other concerns you may have.

In looking online for other hotels in the neighborhood, I used Expedia.com to

find hotels near: 9801 Natural Bridge Rd St Louis, MO 63134 (the Renaissance address). As part of the search, you enter the dates of your stay.

The resulting list shows each hotel's distance from the Renaissance, with a photo, user rating, and prices.

You can then filter that list by price, user rating, services, and accessibility Ii.e., accommodating mobility issues, blindness, etc.)

The closest and cheapest are the Clarion Airport (.33 miles away, $83) amd the St. Louis Travelodge (0.27 miles away, $54).

If you want to see these hotels on a map with the Renaissance, go to Google maps and look for "hotels near STL" (the ST. Louis Airport code).

Hope this helps.

You get the joy of being among the harmonica brethren and - sistren? - and staying up all night hyperventilating with enthusiasm, all while saving $30 or $40 a night on your hotel room.

I dunno, Emile. I tried going the other way - giving up composition to play harmonica. But Composition kept dropping by wearing skimpy outfits and saying things like, "You really wanna turn down *all this*? C'mon baby, I *know* you want it . . ." Somehow I seldom have the will to resist.
