If you were at SPAH last year you know you had to mortgage your house to eat at the restaurant for dinner.
Denny's seems to be gone now and as far as I can tell most
places are meat oriented or high carb. Being diabetic and being on a plant based diet this could be a big problem.
Does anybody know the area as far as food goes?

Yeah I'm in the Presidents club with Bill Clinton and George Bush.

Thanks,

Emile

I was a bit dismayed at the high cost of living at that hotel last year, particularly because from time to time I eat a buffet lunch at a Renaissance Marriot in Ft. Worth for about $10. Good salad bar, the works. Just the kind of grub that can sustain me for, and help me recover from, all night partying. I found nothing like that in St. Louis.

There was a pretty good barbeque joint about a mile the other way from that Denny's. It was fun being the only white boy in the place. I found a grocery store and a couple of Chinese food restaurants down that way too. Not much help to a vegetarian or anyone on a sensible diet.

I could not find much time for being a tourist and I never cared much for hanging out around airports. I am still on the fence about going back to St. Louis this year. Last year was a bit of a marathon, made considerably more challenging by the lack of good nutrition and cheap coffee.

Just a note for the future, you won't find a more harmonica-friendly town than Chicago. We know a thing or two about hosting conventions, too ...

The hotel bar/restaurant has a really really good taco plate. I wouldn't classify it as overly healthy but I'm from south Texas and they were really good. I don't remember the cost, but they were very reasonably priced. Also - and this does require the unthinkable - if you get up early, the hotel actually sets up a pretty good little breakfast/oatmeal thingy outside the vendor area. The food was really good and not that expensive although it does require getting up before 9 and that is far worse than expensive food...

Hopefully my room will be upgraded and I'll get a fridge and microwave. If it does come down to leaving the hotel, I'll have a car, and I hate eating alone.

Food choices are always a bit problematic because the most affordable hotels with the facilities we need tend to be in the boonies.

Discussions like this - and potential hookups and cooperative solutions that result - are a good idea.

Perhaps we can help facilitate this for future conventions (right now we're in intensive gear-up mode, and with a crashed reservations website we're trying to get fixed asap).

@GMaj7. Greg, I think that the Tacos were in Dallas the year before, However I just turned 69 and I am frequently wrong about things that I never was wrong about before.

If I remember correctly, they had a restaurant food menu, but also a bar food menu. You could order from the bar food menu while sitting in the restaurant.

I'll be ordering a pizza and some Chinese carryout this time around Gonna avail myself of the shuttle service, too. The breakfast buffet's pricey, but I can scarf up enough to carry me through to dinner. Last year they had good barbecue sammies for lunch at the little snack bar in the hall. Too bad the rooms don't have refrigerators.

No clothing that in any way promotes or endorses lead guitar players..

Other than that.. it is pretty casual.. except for the banquet..

Wish I could be of more assistance as I know the area relatively well...There aren't many good restaurant options for you within walking distance if you need plant-based and low-carb. There are a fair number of fast food restaurants up and down Natural Bridge Road, most of which would have some (low-quality) salad options. Maybe a few more choices if you go about a mile south to St. Charles Rock Road. When SPAH was at Westport STL the nearby restaurant options were much better IMO.
