With all the recent buzz on embouchures lately on MBH, I have decided to keep an open-mind concerning embouchures. I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I have making them. Remember, the harmonica is a liberating instrument. Don't let embouchures limit you. Lets take TOTAL control over embouchures. Don't let them rule you!

Great video. I learned a lot. I think the pen embouchure is good and sanitary if you are using someone else's harmonica.

We also need to include the nose embouchure, for people like Joe Filisko who can play with their nose. I don't know if this would count as an "embouchure", since the word implies mouth.

CarlA, you need to post more often! You are as progressive as you are modern. We'd all do well to take a page from your book.

Thanks for the kind words. I would not have stumbled upon these unique and versatile embouchures had it not been for my enlightening experience a few days ago while scaling the Himalayan mountains in nothing but my black speedo and trusty marine band deluxe( gapped and embossed I might add, with special after-market cover plate screws and purple neon lights). That experience, combined with my 40 day fast from food and water, plus a healthy dose of encouragement and refreshment from MBH has been the key to unraveling these great treasures. I will continue to search my inner-self for more emboucher possibilities.
Remember, you own the emboucher, don't let the emboucher own you. Let's get to it!
Thanks again!

I wondered who the guy in the speedo was.... I was the man atop K2 with the shimmering rainbow sequined codpiece lighting your way....

I was practicing the embouchures that I learned in Thailand, you may have heard the booming and echoing mournful tone...

I would post the videos here, but they - for whatever reason - are considered adult in nature. You can view them on my pay site www.yousticktheharmonicawhere?.com ...

How did you tongue block with your tongue so firmly in your cheek? :)

Shadoe42- never inhale through a brass mouthpiece unless it's been really well cleaned. I speak from experience!

As "us" the enlightened ones know - it is written in the secret holy books that Little Walter left in "our" care that these sacred embouchures that CarlA so carelessly yet graciuosly revealed were never to be shown to others who are not mentally capable to ever evolve and be like "us" the most embouchure wise players on planet Earth...

"We" our left to make a decision here unparalleled since the discovery -that our Master, Little Walter- kept a detailed diary of every possible embouchure that man could ever imagine utilizing to produce music through the humble harmonica.

This decision must be left in the hands of the "one" who was first to let the world know of a few of these sacred advanced playing techniques. Yes, you, [CarlA] have been revealed as the (chosen one) and you are entrusted to oversee, preserve and proudly proclaim > The Only True Book Of One Million and One Harmonica Embochures <> Written by Little Walter.

This once secret book must not ever get in the hands of "them", those who will use this information to forever decimate genuine creativity and modernization of harmonica embouchures. If some choose to turn from their folly and join the church of Little Walter, the Elders will decide their fate and wrestle with these life changing crucial decisions of letting them join "us".

KingoBad being the Top Elder - is assigned to bring the less enlightened ones into full recognition of the sacred teachings in "the book"...Together we can summons the Mighty Power left to "us" and use "it" judicially as we travel to the ends of the earth bringing lost harmonica players into the fold and revealing to their blinded consciousness for the first time ever "the truth" :)

"I" must remain unknown, for it is only my servanthood that was commended to this holy mission of "embouchure recognition and enlightenment" :)

Ah, I thought I recognized you. The rainbow sequenced one-piece was difficult to notice due to the glare of the sun off the mountain peaks.

What brand of pen do you recommend, CarlA? Is it true that a dark color has a richer tone? There are some cheap Chinese knock-offs, or should I stick with the gold-plated Mont Blanc? Creamer cups? Opinions on low-fat versus full cream? Help!

Lol!

I think I was able to locate the ISBN number for Little Walter book, "One million and one embouchers". You can still locate them on Amazon.com, but they are commanding a very high price. I will see if I can find a hard bound book, then I will donate it to the Smithsonian Institute so it can serve future generations for millennia to come!

I am not too sure about using the "low fat" variety creamer containers. Let me look into that today and post back with an update. Thanks for taking the time to watch. I hope you learned something useful.

Is this related at all to Toots Thielemans turkey baster technique? (All the videos of that seem to have disappeared; I suspect the Illuminutty.)

@Bronzewailer

UPDATE!!!!

I am sorry for the delayed response. I tested out the "low" creamer -vs- full fat creamers. My observation thus far is to stay clear of "low" fat varieties, as the tone is much thinner. The full fat creamer gives a much more "Chicago" tone, gritty and dirty.
The scientific explanation thus far is that the low fat creamers are less abundant in the low density lipoproteins(LDL's), and I believe this is responsible for the decrease tone. I will confirm this by gel electrophoresis, but I won't have the results for a week or so.

As far as using the pens for the "pen embouchure" that I demonstrated, stay away from the knock-off brands found overseas. They are loaded in BPA's!!

Many thanks, @Carla. Your methods have magically fixed my tone. It used to be angel hair thin; now it's as thick as a piece of linguini.
