I recently started gigging with a fairly large band, bass, two guitars, two drummers, keyboards, backup vocals/percussion and me...so im using the minimalist approach and playing through the pa exclusively. I had been plugging a shure 520dx into a Ibenez Ts9 then strait into a quarter inch hi z port on the board this worked pretty well. The last gig I added a boss dd3 delay and because the board was so far away i needed to use a DI and to plug into the box on stage, I got a really good sound check before performance and a good volume level out front. Pleas excuse the long approach but my chain went mic-dd3-Ts9-DI-PA, there was a thread earlier about using a delay down stream of harp attack when using a DI, has anyone else tried this? Does it help keep the delay effect better intact? In my case it would be; mic-Ts9-Dd3-DI-PA, I would like to hear what others are trying and if anyone has experimented with delay downstream of tube emulation -thanks Joe

Put the delay last. The delay part will sound better and give you more control over fine tuning.

I don't use amps - only the pa with pedals. For an acoustic group, I use the following (because they want me to have a blues harp amped tone on some songs)...

SM58
Exotic EP Booster
Lone Wolf HarpBreak

The EP Booster gives me a fatter acoustic tone and pushes the HB to give really ratty distortion (which works perfectly).

On the board, I eq flat and add a bit of reverb or compression. I play probably 50% of the songs clean, 25% with the HB on and 25% to my vocal mic.

I have other gear I use sometimes, but that rig would let me play 99% of shows any way I want to play.

@HarpNinja Thanks for the input Mike. Your rig is simple and clean,-what I'm striving for! I initially tried an old sm545 but it didn't drive the TS9 the way I wanted it to so I switched to the bullet, the EP Booster may have done the trick, but I may still try taking it apart and change it to high z. I would like to try the Harp Attack, you mentioned the Harp Break, have you tried the HA? Any thoughts on the two? again appreciate the advice, will try the dd3 at the end of the line next rehearsal.

@harmonicanic - Been playing unplugged so long feels good to kick up the tunes with the Band.....

two drummers!
I hope that you don't end up struggling to hear yourself, ones usually bad enough.
I've used the Harpbreak as a preamp into Amps and on its own into a PA.
Can't recommend it enough especially matched with the L/W delay. As Mike says put the delay last in the chain.

I prefer the HB because you can stomp it on and off with no noise from a tube. Seriously, a cupped SM58 with the EP Booster will get you a nice blues tone in and of itself.

I usually hold the harp like Lee Oskar and play with a loose cup. If I want to get really dirty, I use the HB and cup really tight.

@Jehosaphat- I would like a monitor to better hear myself but the drummers are tight and overall as a band surprisingly not too loud, but its easy to not hear in the mix....

@HarpNinja-absolutely on good tone with mic and booster, initially used just the bullet but added the TS9 and it gave some depth so i kept it, Im thinking of trying a harp break, a harp attack or maybe a Tech21 blonde, either way just two pedals some kind of amp emulation/ distortion and delay, Mike are you still running any sansamp pedals?
