As i am sitting here typing I am wearing my newly arrived (today) Farmer's harp rack. I have been looking for harp racks for a while. I bought the Hohner Flex Rack a few weeks ago and was very disappointed with it for diatonic. Harps keep flying out of it because the area that holds the harps is poorly designed. This rack is very good for 12 hole chromatics and larger sized harps and it does hold certain models ok. Now for this Farmer's harp rack, without a doubt this is the best diatonic rack that I have encounted. The harp holders is a very strong magnet and it is very easy to change harps unlike the Hohner flex rack which is a struggle. The Farmer's rack has a very nice way of adjusting the angle of the harp also the Hohner has some good adjustment points. This Farmer's rack is without a doubt the most comfortable and natural feeling rack that I have ever used, I am very impressed with it. It is advertised as the last harp rack you will buy. The company that makes it is the same company that makes Farmer's kick drums. I hope this helps and starts a discussion about racks. I have no affiliation with this company or any other.

Are you sure you haven't got the Flexrack set up incorrectly?

I've been using one for over a year with a STRND mic attachment playing 1 hour sets swapping harps and have no problem holding Lee Oskar, Manji, Olive, or any of the other diatonics I have.

Farmer looks nice though.

Flexrack works fine for me now I have it set up.

I do have the Flex rack set up correctly, Some other people on this forum had similar problems with certain models flying out of it. There was a thread dealing with this a few years ago. If I remember correctly, Walter Tore solve the problem by taking the bottom off of an Elton or a similar rack and substituting it for the one on the Flex rack. This bottom piece of the Elton bends slightly up in the back so the harps won't slip out. As I pointed out in my previous post, the Flex rack is great for 12 hole chromatics and larger harps. Komuso you have a Strnd in yours so swapping harps is easy. I tried putting a 270 on my Farmer's rack but the cover are not magnetic so I will just use 2 racks one for chromatics and one for diatonics.

I'm just using a stock flexrack and the harps go in normally, with the strnd hanging off the back, I don't put the Strnd in the rack itself.

Holds them plenty tight, in fact I have to wriggle a little to get them in.

The flex rack is fine for diatonics based on my experience.

IMHO you have the tension on the two springs too loose for diatonic. If you can fit a fat chromatic in their ok, then it's going to be a little loose for a smaller diatonic. I currently couldn't squeeze a chromatic or a bigger harp in their without making it looser.

I like the look of the farmer, especially the magnet, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it can hold my mic setup so I'll stick to current. If I was just playing into a stand mic it'd be great, but then I guess you could also just use one of those stand magnet harp attachments too without the hassle of a rack.

Lately though I've started using the harp mic for vocals more and it means you can dance around free from a mic stand and still blow n'sing too.

I just bought the farmers as my first rack. It's more expensive than some, but it's well-built. I did find that I had to add some padding to the neck piece, but that's not a response to a design flaw, just an adjustment I made to make the harp sit exactly where I want it.

As a player new to rack use, I can say that the Farmers rack has not been at all frustrating...and I think that's worth a lot.

One thing to note on the magnetic style racks.
They can cause some interference with Seydel stainless steel reeds.
I bought one recently and like it, especially for quick change but depending on the position of the harp and the covers, there is noticeable interference with the reeds. You can work around this in some cases but that's a whole separate discussion.

i tried to buy a farmers rack, but he was sold out
i guess i lucked out, if it does not work well with seydel reeds.

it is 2014, you would think by now someone could come
with an inexpensive harmonica holder, that works.
all i want is one that does not push away while playing.

not too much to ask for.

damn, i may of just solved my own issue
like i said, the only problem i ever had with a harp rack
is they always loosen up and push the harp away
while you are playing, so consequently i never
use a rack.

so...... a grolsch beer bottle has a rubber washer
they make a great strap locks also.
i simply used 3 of them, the rack now locks in place
