If you can send only one tune to describe blues music, to someone that has never heard blues, I believe this is it!

REASONS:
The title.."I've got the Blues All Over Me". Nuff said.

Use of the word Blues: I'm pretty sure I heard the word "blues" 20 times during the song.

Lyrics: So corny they are fantastic. To the point. Listen to what the blues does to him!

Instrumentation: acoustic guitar, harp, foot beat,..A strong image of a great part of blues culture

Artist: Jerry "Boogie" McCain (June 18, 1930 – March 28, 2012), Jerry was a southern black bluesman that lived the blues music lifestyle. Many stories and hard times I'm sure, but he kept doing what he loved until the end.

That's the challenge..lol..Seriously, Jerry's playing had a big influence on me. I regret I didn't make the time to go see him when he was alive. His loose style, simplicity, and emotion are what attracted me to his playing.

Not many left that can tell those great stories from when Chess Records was big.

Any you guys ever meet Jerry? Any memories or stories?

If you don't like that, something is wrong. :)

This is really good. I must admit that I was not familiar with Jerry McCain, but I'm going to get some of his CDs. Thanks for turning me on to him.

His old Rex 45, which contained the classic instrumental Steady and a tune better known thru the The Fabulous Thunderbirds, She's Tough are classics. I remember playing those two to death when I first hears it.

So good! Right now I am listening to his Lucy Pearl on Youtube. Funny how the real blue blues like this can make you feel good.

Bob,
Do you know where the video of Jerry McCain playing "Rough Stuff" was shot? Looks like it might have been in Europe, but I am guessing.
Thanks,
Rich

Don't know but it's probably some old file footage somewhere. Rough Stuff comes from the same session that She's Tough and Steady was recorded.

I can see why Kenny would want to work with Jerry - he seems like a very fun and interesting fellow to hang with :)

I've always liked Jerry McCain's "A Rose for My Lady", from his 1989 album, "Blues 'n' Stuff". This isn't blues, but it's soulful in its own way. Simple harp playing, fitting the melody and mood perfectly:
