i was listening to some stuff off "Sitting On A Million" earlier tonight...their second album from back in 89...the first album with Jim Conway...and it struck me how good Jim is/was as a player... i guess he may be a bit 'under the radar' in the states
Ian of course is an awesome player, and i cant wait to hear Brod Smith's contributions to the new record...

Thanks for this - I gladly listen to anything where Ian Collard is playing. I think he is a wonderful player and I love his groove, sound - the whole package really. In particular he has rehabilitated the 3B for me, as many of his catchiest riffs use it, or so I think. In Collard Greens and Gravy he can clearly do all the pyrotechnics if he wanted, but - on the recordings anyway - seems happy to play that groove and it makes the songs I think.

On their Wiki page it says Brod Smith an Ian play an alternative nights - interesting.

ive been fortunate enough to see them both, locally, in the last couple of years...i bought Ian's "Juke Joint Boogie"...which is inspired by Sun Records recordings...his Dr Ross stuff is really strong on that record...
In the backsliders Ian does get to step out and feature occasionally. He did a version of "I wish You Would" as his indulgent show-off piece on the Backsliders' "Left Field Holler" which is...well, you probably have to hear it

Does he let rip playing live? I just listened to that that track you mentioned 'I Wish You Would'. Wow. Even doing that wild stuff there he is a sultan of groove. Fantastic. And he doesn't even have his own Wiki page, there is no justice.

i dont know if ive heard him be quite that much of a show off in a gig...but he plays great, as you know.
the night i saw him was out back of a country pub. i think he was using a blues jr, with LW pedals...the lady behind the bar said something to me about his sound, how amazing it was...'he sounds like he's playing a saxophone'...
