I've had a number of folks ask about 280 combs over the past year and I just wanted to make a quick note to let everyone know that I'm going to try and have those up on the website by next week, as well as combs for the Seydel Deluxe. The 280 program is written I just need to run another test comb to make sure that everything is correct and the Seydel Deluxe comb I already make for the HFC so I just need to modify that program slightly to make them for non-HFC Deluxes.

I've also resumed offering custom harps. Honestly I missed making them and hopefully now that I'm caught back up I'll be able to do a better job of getting them done in a more timely manner.

I also purchased a vinyl cutter back during the summer and I thought I would offer that service as well to folks that might want vinyl stickers of their bands name or logo, etc. Feel free to email me if you're interested and we can discuss what you need.

One last note, I started a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/blowyourbrassoff which I thought might make it easier for me to post updates, etc.

Chris, are you doing combs for both the straight tuned as well as the cross tuned (the present day setup since the mid to late 60's) or just the cross tuned ones?

Are you referring to the 280? The combs for the 280 are intended to be used on the older 280's that had wood combs.

The wood combed 280's, for those reading this and don't know, those were always straight tuned (the pre-mid 60's Larry Adler 16's were the same as well), so many thanks for clearing that up.

I do think it would be a good idea to also have a replacement for the cross tuned 280's, which will also work on the Super 64's as well (tho not to be confused with the Super 64X's, which are different).

For the older 280's, are they going to be made available in lucite, different woods like maple?

Oh never mind Bob. I went to Pat Missins site.

Straight tuned is where all the natural note are on the top reed plate.

cross tuned is where each reed plate shares naturals and sharps and flats.

Because of this difference I would imagine straight tuned chros are much easier to work on.

Straight tuned is much like the way Hohner 260's and 270's, all Hering and Seydel chromatics are set up (also the same set up as the Suzuki Leghorn).

More than just the note layout arrangement, I personally find that the slide movement on cross tuned chromatics have a longer and slower throw than the straight tuned setups do.

The reason that I never did one for the plastic combed 280's is because there really didn't seem to be a reason to do them. The wood combs are prone to cracking but the plastic ones seem to hold up pretty well. Not to say that at some point I won't make them, but that was the reason that I didn't in the past.

I'll have to check the throw on my 270 and 280 when I get home. There is a 16th note run in 1/2 steps that I do. I practice it a lot because I have to adjust how fast I 'pull the trigger' so I don't lose one note of the five note run.
