I am getting an Older Blues Jr for a trade I did a while back. The guy trading is a very good amp tech and he is going to change some tone stacks and throw in some 60's caps. My question. I have a newer Eminence 10'' Lil Buddy Speaker. Just wondering if I would be worth the effort to cut a new baffle board and throw in the 10 instead of the stock 12". How would that affect the overall out put and/or is it do-able electronically at all. Im thinkin it couldnt hurt the tone vs the crappy stock speaker that comes with it.

Have your buddy lower the preamp gain! A Lot. I've put 12AU's in V2 and V3 on a couple of BJ's and the owners have walked away with huge smiles on their faces - make the amp much more playable. As for the speaker swap - never know unless you try. But fix the other stuff first. Then compare the same amp with 2 different speakers. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

Greg, how much will that cut down on the volume ? One of the reasons I want the Jr. is I have an outstanding 53 Gibson GA- 30 but at 15 watts it just does not cut when playing with most electric guitar players. For Bigger I have a Bassman, but sure would be nice to cut in smaller venues without having to drag out the Bassman.

No way to say. Depends on the relative efficiencies of the speakers being compared.
10" speaker 78.5 sq in surface area 12" speaker: 113 sq in surface area
The 12" speaker has nearly 45% more surface area. All OTHER things being equal, it WILL make a noticeable difference. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

If you have good technique, you'll get good sounds out of the stock speaker. I wouldn't change it to a 10" speaker. I've played through a number of them in various forms. The stock ones sound good. Do what Greg suggests, but don't expect a ton of volume out of it. It's only a 15 watt amp.
