You may have noticed a new subheader for the forum. I decided that SOME subheader would be a good idea, since there hasn't been one for a while. So I worked something up, after a few false starts. (One discarded idea: "It's NOT harp-l!")

But I'm open to suggestions. In fact, you might consider this thread an informal competition for who can supply the best forum subheader. I will be the sole judge, but I'll certainly pay attention to the general consensus.

The forum homepage gets 100,000 pageviews a month. It deserves a witty subheader.

Suggest away......

Actually, I realize now why we haven't had a subheader to this point: because the danged thing shows up at the top of every post. Hmmmm. Well, you guys tell me. Maybe we don't need a subheader. Or smaller type, perhaps?

A few more:

We blow hard

For blowhards

Blow, baby!

Bend, tweak, blow, wail

Aha! I got it. A line from Louis Armstrong--he was talking about his wife and marriage, but it works for this joint:

We're still wailing

(The original quote was Armstrong's response when he was asked if he and his wife Lucille had any children. "No, Daddy," he said, "but we're still wailing."

I have made the change. I like it. It feels right to me. You're free to make additional submissions--and in fact I think it would be good to change it every now and then--but for now, I'm satisfied.

Related to a feature of the instrument:

Hem...a siren also wails, that's a little problem!

Nate - can you rotate these as per Rick's suggestion? Seeing the same witty line over and over, well it starts to become less witty over time e.g. bumper stickers and coffee mugs in dismal offices.

When I saw the original, 'Abandon hope...', it was while I was reading one of Frank's posts. Seemed in keeping, so I simply thought he had found a secret forum easter-egg-style trick to add a sub-heading. The I saw it everywhere and thought you'd been hacked by a very gentle, benign hacker.

Poetic yes, full marks for that. But still rather bleak. Are you feeling negative generally?

Nothing to do with this, but I'm reading this while playing my guitar that I've just finally retrieved from one of my son's friends, who he had 'leant' it to many months ago. Came back with broken strings so been fixing it up today. Just thinking how much easier it is for me to get a nice sound out of this than a harmonica...hmmm. There must be a reason guitar players vs harp players = 500:1

The current one clearly needs to be revised to read "wailin'", not wailing. I'm quite certain Louis Armstrong didn't say that he and Lucille were "wailing".

I suspect there is a way to rotate them, but I'd have to do a little research.

Breathe in, breathe out,... (and relax)

When you confuse your holes in the dark don't be surprised if you don't get the noise you expected

I let someone else play my harmonica once. Once.

I cahnt tolk rit nohw I haav a harmohnica stuck in my mouf.

I'll trade you some venison jerky for a Deuce and a Quarter!!! (Nothin' but love Frank and Nasty)

Beginner, 'You know, soaking your harp in whiskey really doesn't help. It can even damage the harp'
Old Hand, 'Yeah, but it tastes better.'

Would you like Wood or Plastic?

Nate - your 'Breathe in, breathe out...(and relax)', that's very good.

I started reading your post as a stream of consciousness essay before it morphed in a list of potential subheadings. That was interesting.

Wailin', Wailing? According to the web, he said that (whatever it was) to the Pope.

@harp-er: I googled both "we're still wailin'" armstrong and "we're still wailing" armstrong.

Two hits for the former.

Two thousand three hundred and eighty hits for the latter.

The story is most probably apocryphal in any case, but whenever I've seen Louis talking on film, he wasn't ever sayin' anything like "wailing". Google hits notwithstanding.
Sounds better too, IMHO.

Personally I'm not a fan of the sub header thing at all. I find it a bit distracting.
