It does not get better than this.

EDIT: This is , of course, Denise GRUENLING, playing monster harmonica here. My apologies for butchering the last name.

Yes I actually thought JR topped the game at times, the first time I watched (oddly enough, in another thread started this week also ?!?!) But then this time around I appreciated also some of the other interactions, especially near the end. Jason was ramping it up though. Great show...check the 'Jason Ricci AND Dennis Gruenling TOGTHER' thread for more info on this show and where you can obtain the videos free and legal...I think it's on page 2 at the moment...as of this post

"Yeah, this is why we play!"

Not sure. I play to let my blues out. It's an itch that has to be scratched, else I'll suffer.

Cheers,

This isn't a contest, I realize, but I thought Pat Ramsey owned this particular jam. He is out of the gate with both guns blazing (there's a mixed metaphor for ya)and he never lets up. His tone is fat, warm and cutting, he is amazingly, awesomely nimble at creating phrases, and his sound is breathtakingly fluid. Jason is terrific foil for him; 2 equally matched harp players forcing each other to up their game on the spot. Dennis Gruenling is a different sort of player and is a apt contrast to the other two. This makes for a terrific bit of music playing.

This is indeed why we play, and this kind of barn burning , full of hot licks and upped temps, is indeed letting the blues out. It's turning that bad feeling into something else, something joyous, something more resilient. It's nothing less than turning bad luck into teachable moments and having your experience turn into wisdom.
