Again a Japanese guy, named Takeshi Fukazawa.
Nothing to say, nothing to add, except that his harmonica is a Bluesharp...Overblows not so easy, sometimes it can be heard, but anyway, no problem for beeing thrilled.

Edit: not so sure it's a Bluesharp as brand, finally.

Very Nice to my ears. I don't always like when guys slide into notes (like a glissando straight up or down, all blow or draw) but there's not much of that here and thats also my own pet peace that is indeed subjective as so many great players do it. Over all very heartfelt performance with beautiful ideas and lovely techniques at large! Meow Takeshi!

He cheats a bit on the B-theme but I´ll grant him that. Great playing and a lovely sound. Best I´ve heard in this style in quite a while.

Great harmonica playing, he"s a real musician. He's using a Bb harmonica, playing in F, but I think the harp has been modified, I think hole 6 has been tuned up a half-step. I can play the whole thing on a Bb except for when I get to hole 6 to play the E natural. Can't do it.

And the B section, forget it. I can play the first 2 notes and then I'm dead. Can't do it. This is when I pick up my chromatic. Now I can do it. But he's playing a diatonic.

Is he overblowing? These overblowing guys can do some rather amazing things.

Either way, great work, Mr. Fukazawa.

"Is that a music school recital?"

Could be, first because they are young, and on the vids you can see them playing only in small venues...
They play jazzy also (three harps + piano, outfit called The bluesharp circle).

It's an interesting style... Partially like jazz chromatic palying, and partially like jazz-blues diatonic playing. I thought it was on a Chro at first, but clearly it's on a diatonic... Very interesting!

He is very good. He hits some tough bends very precisely. Really nice phrasing and dynamics too. Beautiful vibrato. The natural reverb of the big hall doesn't hurt either....

That was some very expressive playing and nice tone.

Hey J, it does sound like F/Dm (tune starts on Dm) on a Bb harmonica alright, so the A section melody lays out well in 2nd position and has that bluesy Ab on the 3rd hole draw. To my ears, it does sound like hole 5 has been raised to give the E without overblowing.

The B section is in Db major, which on a Bb harmonica is... ouch my head, 10th position, I think... and clearly needs overblows for the melodic fragments. In particular, it needs a sustained hole 1 overblow holding the Db. This is difficult to make sound good and the player substitutes another note instead C - it works as the major 7th over the Db chord.

Blingty, I'd like to be able to do such analysis!!!!
I can merely say there are overblows here and there, because to my ears they sound -not harsh- but as unusual sounds out of a diatonic.

There's a name for musicians like him...
EMPLOYED
Good stuff. He and others like him are taking the instrument out of
the expected and into new and refreshing areas.

Very good post and outstanding performance.

Thanks guys. Being able to play like that would be more impressive! He's a tasty player.

And no real magic on the analysis. I know the tune fairly well on the chromatic and have a chart for it so I know the B section is in Db. J pointed the right direction saying it was a Bb harp with an E natural.

Tasty player alright... must keep an eye out for him.

Nice player! I was wondered about how clean melody sounds, I tried it using richter and noticed that he don't use overbends where they are necessary. I contacted him via facebook and he tells he's using very special tuning, similiar to what I once made for my customer.

He call it "FLISNUF"Tuning (hope it's not a secret)

Nice you could contact him and get explanations!
You should also refer to a j.norem topic, launched feb 1st, about new styles harps.
BTW1 congratulations for your jazzy blues video: I never get bored when I listen to your playing, always surprising.
BTW2 Didn't know you had jammed with Howard Levy!!!!!
