Any experience with this particular Gibson Maestro? The earlier Maestros with 5879 input pentode preamp tubes are killer, but the 6EU7 is a high gain triode.

Thanks

I've not come across the Maestro, but I have blown through a Kalamazoo Bass 30 with the 6EU7's in it. It sounded pretty good to me. A little touchy on the EQ when trying to avoid feedback, but otherwise, pretty rich tone considering the gain factor of the 6EU7.

If the amp has already been touched i.e. is not 100% original, you could simply rewire the preamp sockets to accept a 12at/ax etc. Then you would have options.

6EU is essentially a 12ax7 in performance.

This socket rewire is a pox- do-able but seriously tedious. Every single hookup must be changed.
