This song was auto-playing on Nemeth's website and his singing and playing were so good that I went to YouTube, where I found another version, also live. I think Nemeth, at this point, might just be the best one-two punch (vocals, harp) on the scene. Sugar Blue and Mitch Kashmar have long been favorites of mine, but Nemeth is their equal. As a deep blues singer, he takes risks that neither of them does. I like surprise in a solo, and he does that, too. I'm rapidly becoming a hard-core fan. Just how good he is becomes apparent the moment his guitarist slides in for a solo--and, to my ears, destroys the mood by just blowing wide open from the first note. Nemeth, by contrast, offers a model in how to take your time:

Really, really good.

My impression is that's the way they wanted it.

Thanks for posting.

John is one of the only guys that plays our club regularly that I always try to make it down to see. His Harp playing is traditional in concept but he does his own thing with it and never ceases to move me. His singing is incredible and the sure telling of how good he is is the compliments he gets from the Black clientele at the club. They love him. William Bell had nothing but praise for him when we were talking about him.

It's nice that you gave John another chance. He's a fabulous singer and harp player.

The guitar player is AC Myles. He's a good friend of mine. He manages his volume quite well. I suspect that initial blast of volume during the guitar solo may be accidental or because the camera guy looks like he is in pretty close.

Since, this video was captured, John moved to Memphis. It's too bad. The Bay Area lost a great talent, a great guy and a friend. Plus, the world lost a super tight band.

Long been a favourite of mine, played the song to death. It even inspired me enough to have a go at it on my chromatic which never gets played.
I was surprised how easy third position on a chrom is (not that I'm great at it).

I prefer this version; even if the vocals are less edgy, it has more harp content.

@Joe L: I've been talking up John Nemeth for the past two years. I think you're remembering one thread, three years ago, in which I said that I didn't like the way he sang one particular song. You must have missed the two or three threads I've started since then in which I've a) raved about his chromatic playing; b) said I'd like to have him at HCH, and c) raved about his singing. That's OK; I don't expect you to keep track of everything I contribute here. But my praise of Nemeth is no new thing.

I have seen him perform live. He is quite an entertainer and he is interesting to watch. He skillfully engages the audience and is captivating. I like his singing and harp playing very much. There are some who don't care for his singing style (not voice) because it's different than what they would normally equate with blues singing. He does have an outstanding voice. I would have to agree that he steps out of the box and does take chances. He has original songs and a diversity of style, with great tone and charisma.

Here is a video of John Nemeth that I shot at the October, 2012 Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise. This was during the Pro Jam hosted by the band Trampled Under Foot. Nemeth plays and sings on two songs.

Other notable musicians in the clip: James "Pookie" Young on bass (Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials), L.A. Smith - percussion, Kelly Littleton - drums (Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials), Randy Oxford - trombone, Don Hendee - trumpet. The organ player on the second song was with Trampled Under Foot on the cruise, but I don't know his name.
