I've just been listening to the Jimmy Rogers' Allstars album, Blues, Blues, Blues, and it occurred to me that it's a great album to spend time with, for anyone who wants to hear a bunch of great examples of harp in an accompanist/support role. Every track has harp, mostly either Kim Wilson or Carey Bell. Taj Mahal plays on 2 numbers, which are cool in a different way. But for a one stop shop full of accompaniment lessons on classic grooves, this album has to be good value.
Plus, it's pretty good just to listen to.

Ha ha, that's the track I kept hearing in shopping centres. It would reach out and grab me. It happened a few times, until I finally went 'what IS this record I keep hearing. I had to buy it.

Jimmy also has a Cd or 2 of his classics with no harp involvement- which gives you a fun opportunity to put your spin on them :)

I too enjoy this cd for the harp as an integral part of the band but more often than not in a supporting role. Kim Wilson was obviously chosen for this project because he works hard at keeping the groove moving then can put the pedal to the metal when asked to.
I'm currently working through David Barrett's Accompanient book. Great stuff! Playing harp with singers and other soloists means, like guitar players, we'd best be prepared to be part of the rhythm section as that's where most of our time will be spent while others are in the spotlight.

i know Bee...point was, after you get inspired from the blues, blues, blues Cd - Jimmy has Cds of his classics without a harp player on them and you can have a go of fun supporting Jimmys ensemble yourself :)
