I have played through a Bassman and owned 2 Harp Gear products. 1. A smaller Double Trouble and 2. Harp Gear 50 ( 50 watt 4-10 ). It's hard to set a standard for Bassman because they all can be a little different. Over all the Bassman is a great amp depending on tube set up and speakers used. Good volume. The Harp Gear Double Trouble is a fantastic little amp with 2 - 8 about 18 watts. Great tone, but limited as far as volume. Very good for smaller rooms, and has a line out for P. A. if needed. The Harp Gear 50 is a great very powerful point to point hand wired amp. My experience with mine was that for my taste it was just a tad too clean and just a little shrill. My speakers were not broken in though. I also had a fairly clean JT 30 at the time. You have power to spare and excellent service and feedback from Brian Purdy, the owner. A very good amp for that price range.
Your talkin apples and oranges as far as price. the bottom line is personal taste. In my opinion one of the best overlooked amps out there for the price is an early Fender Blues DeVille 4-10 due to the power, variation of tones available, and tone ( depending on your set up ). For $400.00 to $600.00 you can't go wrong. With all of the above amps I would suggest investing in a good anti-feedback device. Head room is great but feed back aint.
