Hey folks, just picked up an interesting little mic from ebay, an ACOS MIC 33-2 Crystal Hand Or Desk Microphone. They are (or were) a British company based in Hertfordshire. Anyone ever heard of them or got a similar Mic?
Tried it though my amp, its still working well, not so hot as my other crystal mic (JT30 with a MC151) and it doesnt pack as much of a low end but its got a nice trashy garage sound and I like the on/off switch. Its got a strange omni-directional quality which I can't work out if its a good thing or not, could pose some interesting rhythm accompaniment possibilities or could prove to be a massive feedback monster as soon as I get near other musicians, so far seems kinda under control though.
Getting in the rehearsal studio with it tomorrow so I'll have to wait and see I guess.
I also got it in its original box with the spec sheet etc, nice touch I thought... picked it up for £12 too....

By the number I thought this might be similar to an Astatic 332 but the pics I've seen show differently. Even so a crystal is a crystal. What I've found is that the small crystals like in a 332 are a good mic for lower harps, especially if I turn the tone way down on my amp. Crystals have very little bass response and this makes them a candidate for cleaner clearer sound. Their mids and highs are where they shine but too much highs from the harp can cause squeal. I have a Ruskin with an MC151 and it responds much the same. I run a Silvertone 1482, 12 watt single 12" with pre amp and a tremolo section. Previously I ran a Bassman and a crystal sounded very good through that. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene
