A friend pointed this out to me; turns out I already bought a 2nd one or I would snap this up. $1400 is a STEAL for what I consider to be the best all around harp amp I've ever played. It is loud enough for just about any use - and sounds great even when turned way down. Sonny Jr isn't making any more of these.

The amp is in New Mexico - seller says he still has the original shipping box which, if you have to have it shipped, is a good thing.

IF you're not familiar with the amp, here's a video of RJ Mischo and me trading licks on one - that starts at 2:40 in the video: http://youtu.be/NO-yTt07ubQ

Hot damn, Greg! That was some fun dueling between you and RJ! I got the same opportunity with him two years ago (rig was a '67 Super Reverb), but that was before I really picked up on what folks around the forum were telling me and got some of my technique together. You made that Avenger sing man!

Hmmm. I see the auction has "ended".That's different than "sold". I wonder why it was pulled? Maybe the seller saw this thread and decided it was too cheap? Anyone here?

Damn. Too late. That was a steal. Every since Greg posted about getting a 2nd Avenger I wanted a 2nd one too. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing. I would have grabbed that in a heartbeat.

I still don't understand why Gary stopped making these amps. They sound good and sold very well. Tmf714 wrote that it was not because of his health. What was the reason?

I understood from Gary it was his health primarily but there seemed to by other issues which were personal and as such not open to public discussion. I wish him well in all events.

I know Gary fairly well - LSC's characterization is accurate.

@ Greg H etc I have a Sonny Jr Super sonny 4x10 I really like it !! I also have 2 brown concerts plus a house full of other amps that sound great for harp .I know a friend/ client that might still have a Avenger for sale for around 1,800 . I'm very tempted to buy it if it's still around .But I guess since I have never played one I'm wondering if it will sound any better or be much different then the super Sonny ? can you tell me what the advantages of getting the Avenger is over what I own ? Thanks Todd

@Todd

The Super Sonny is a wonderful amp. I loved mine. It is smoother sounding. The Avenger has more cut - that makes it less suitable for beginners. But it also allows you to play the amp at much lower volume levels and still get great tone. The Super Sonny isn't as good when turned down.

Greg used the term 'cut'. Hoping someone could define that for me from the harp amp perspective.

That would be a great topic for a new thread!

A couple of years ago, Gary sent me the setting that Sugar Ray Norcia used on the Super Sonny. I ran it that way for a while. It sounded really good. I cranked the treble a bit more and it felt like the amp came alive. I really out to get out more frequently.
