Nice stuff, tooka! I only play my F harp when I give messin' with the kid a try. I'd like to hear you play that with a dirty mic/amp.

I started playing on a F harp. I still have yet to lose the love for high harps.

No link or video shows up in the OP on my screen? Maybe some setting is wrong on my laptop.

But I do like the F harp, especially for fast songs.

Edit: The Quicktime player showed up on my netbook. Yep, F Harp Blast!

This sounds mellow - nice. Makes me want to rush out and buy an F-harp!

Did you record this through your micro cube?

"Pack Fair and Square," J. Geils Band. That's a good one. Sonny Boy II plays F harp a lot.

The opening song of SOUTHBOUND and the opening song of the new Blues Doctors album, "Put It Where You Want It," are both played on F harps.

I play an F harp in 3rd position (key of G) on a track on a new album by Bryan W. Ward, my engineer-buddy at The Tone Room here in Oxford, MS. I'll post a link to that when it's up.

F harps are great lead instruments and great chugging harps.

tooka - you may have successfully taken the pebble from the masters hand on that beauty of a tune :)

yeah, you did a lot of things right - you made it sound easy... and with that track you used that is an accomplishment...

I know you have been working hard to get to this point in your playing. Can you explain a little of your strategy you used to get these results?

For instance, I heard nice space being used to add interest in spots, along with dynamics soft/loud, good use of different note attack and combinations, logical phrasing ideals, working off the changes, confident expression of your ideals, good tone and timing, changing up the 5,4,1 transitions, repetition of a good ideals....

Hi @Frank, there are a number of factors involved.

First it was the twelve page set of notes you posted a while back. I saved it as Franks Bible and refer to it often both to get ideas and encouragement.

Second I discovered the F harp seems to be the perfect match for my cake hole orifice. I feel the harp key resonates perfectly for my mouth size/shape and I can play far more fluidly and with more feeling with that harp but I know I need to transfer that embouchere to other keys also.

Thirdly, I found holding a large bullet sized harp also impeded my playing. My harp movement and cupping ability is so much better with my tiny electret mic.

With regards to the rest, I try not to think about it too much and just let the phrasing, dynamics, attacks, timing and tone, come naturally by playing as much as I possibly can. If I was to analyse too deeply I'd just confuse myself and screw up. I feel I have a long, long journey ahead but where before it was hard work, it is now an absolute pleasure.

Lastly, All the hints, tips, suggestions and comments from the good people here are priceless and I thank you and them very much for that :)

Thanks Tooka

For strategy I meant before playing a song...This can be a great way to approach Bt's ...at least in the practicing - left brain stage of the game...

Break it up by using different but easy ideas to get you to the end.

David Barrett talks about this as well as Rick Estrin - were for the 1st 12 bars you use for ex: octaves, then long notes to phrase the second 12, short staccatto licks for the 3rd - the next mixed long and short - warbles for the next and on and on, let your imagination run wild.

This practice will exercise your mind and when you do go to PLAY a longer BT - it should seem managable, less daunting and easier to make sence of.

Your talent is emerging Tooka good on ya brother - there is guidance, but your doing the footwork to get er done :)

Very nice, but is it just me, or did anyone else's ear hear it wanting to resolve a half-step lower on the very final note? (3 blow instead of 3 draw?) Maybe it's just my ears.

Really fun to listen too. Very catchy.

@Frank. Regarding the strategy, I had no plan I just improvised my way through as I hadn't heard that track for a while and wanted to put myself in a jamming situation where I could be surprised at what I may need to play to. The strategy idea you proposed is a great idea though and one which I'll use in the future.

@Nacoran. I didn't realise. Either it was totally accidental or a ploy not to resolve and leave you begging for more :) Then again I may have been doing a bit of free play like Frank suggested :)
