I just finished a round of online lessons with Scott Albert Johnson and have to brag about him. It was great for a number of reasons. He:

1. is a just a good ole guy from the South.
2. is VERY flexible with scheduling.
3. has a great balance between talking and listening, between demonstrating and letting me play.
4. worked with my strengths and showed me how to make the best use of them.
5. had practical advice for my weakness and "areas for growth."
6. has a great balance between "playing it by the book" and "pushing the envelope" to make his own music.
7. has a unique playing style and implements various "secrets" of his.
8. demonstrated various ways of playing in MULTIPLE positions.
9. is a natural teacher.
10. is a very humble guy with a lot of talent.

I recall Adam making a comment at HCH 2012 when introducing Todd Parrott, that it can be dangerous to complement someone too much before a gig. (Todd blew the speakers off the stage that afternoon by the way.... Todd, we are waiting on your CD!). Scott is good and I really benefitted from his lessons.

Just my 2 cents. :)

[edit] - main point of this post was to point out the great benefits of lessons and the ease of having them via the internet. A great use of modern media.

Scott is a great guy and excellent harp player/teacher. He taught a 4 week beginners class last winter, and I was one of his students. I later took one on one lessons for several weeks with him. His "graduation" gift to me was to let me sit in with him for a song at one of his gigs. It was my first time to play in public. Although I had been fooling around with harps for a long time, he taught me some techniques and ways to approach playing the harp that really helped me improve.

I just saw this thread. gad wagon and uptonk, you both were joys to teach and came equipped with more natural ability AND experience than most students I have taught. So that was particularly fun. harpdude61, you are a helluva good guy and player yourself... I bet you would make a good teacher. groyster1, hope to see you again down this way sometime soon. Thanks to all for the kind words.

EDITED to point out that these lessons with gad wagon were via Skype... he is halfway around the world!

@ gad wagon Scott sounds like a great teacher. Did a quick internet search and can't find any reference to his teaching or teaching schedules. Any suggestions?
