Get a plastic one. I converted a Smith & Wesson pistol case to a harp case.

yeah i have an old plastic tape case packed to capacity isnt the foam in gun cases crumbly? that would solve the 6 chromatics problem.

Office Depot has some really nice aluminum cases. Cloth and cardboard can make dividers and PVA (white/yellow Elmers type) don't smell when dry.

Someone here once mentioned an aluminum case they got at Harbor Freight for maybe 15 bucks. Make dividers/slots, etc. out of firm (not rigid) foam from a fabric store. I've done this with excellent results. Here's where I got the idea:

For a long while, I put my harps in a couple of zippered hard cases like the ones that the Hohner Piedmonts used to come in, and then carry those in a plastic Remington dry box. Lightweight, water-tight, durable, and plenty of little storage spaces in it for accessories. Different brand, but this one's exactly like mine...

You can still get the hard zipper cases with other cheapies even though they changed the one for the Piedmonts.

im allergic to vinyls i cant keep any vinyl cases. i heard the peidmonts are smelly. and im gonna need a mic stand screw on i cant bend over any more either. i carry way too much stuff 14 MBs 10 chroms 2 tremolos 3 365s a 364 a couple mics umm alot.

After years of saying I was going to get around to cleaning my shed out, I finally did. I found a lot of old stuff in there that I'd been looking for.
Improvise. Shortly, I will have a converted Darth Vader head action figure holder!
(I'm also going to convert a old small suitcase into a gig case. It's one of those ones that is smaller on top than the bottom. I'm pretty sure I saw Bugs Bunny with something like it once.) :)
As for securing harps, depending on what sort of a container you get, there are probably lots of ways to secure your harmonicas inside. You could drill little holes and tie rubber bands through, or put little magnets in the slots. I've seen old musical instrument cases that use velvet. To get around the glue issue, if you had a wood backing, you could use upholstering tacks to anchor the velvet in maybe? (I don't know if velvet would tear from the tack holes, but there are certainly upholstery fabrics that would work. Wooden cases, if you are handy, can use glueless joints- either something fancy like dovetails or just screws.
Old fashioned camera cases can work too.

Another option is to search that big auction site for cases from other instruments. I got an old trumpet case that works pretty well. Total cost: Something like $12.

And/or the Lee Oskar 7 harp zipper case (which you can really slip 9 harps into if need be). I have both that and the Seydel 14 harp zipper case. They're both real useful, and pretty reasonably priced, especially if you get one slightly used, like on ebay, or even from a friendly forum member.

I found a pool cue case in the council cleanup. Nice red velvet interior. It holds about a dozen diatonics, side by side on their backs. They don't shift around too much either when you carry it. I take it to open mics. Looks like I got a gun or something in there... Maybe not appropriate depending on your neighbourhood. Might not help with your chromatics and mics either, but greta for a few harps...

I lined a briefcase using balsa and fabric. I didn't like the glue I used though. its been a long time since i noticed it but at first...like for a few months...i wouldnt leave my harps stored in it or theyd pick up the taste. now i leave them.
Could've done it without the fabric I guess, or maybe stapled it in place. I over-engineered a removeable tray. Cost about 20 bux all up, I'm glad I did it. There are good products on the market no doubt, but this is mine...fits cables, mics, pedals, tools, spares, and even a few harps
I've seen some boxes full of cut-off plastic plumbing pipes. I didn't care for the look but it's probably practical.

There are other options too. You could just carry stuff on a bandolero. There are all sorts of interesting ways to carry harps.

My brother made me a chainmail harmonica holder. It only holds one harp. I can't imagine how heavy one for a full set would be, and it took him forever. It works best for long cover harps (they don't snag).

i think im gonna do an aluminum breifcase with a seperate wood table top that goes on a mic stand. like a magicians table. and yes tacky and hotglue.
