Harvey, thanks for posting this - I enjoyed Deak's groovin set at SPAH.

Also, I had a blast hanging out with you and Mike and Tom (plus the other locals who were there). Tell Mike I'll bring a quart of bourbon for him next year so he doesn't have to bring so much on the plane!

While the video is cool, there is no true way to convey the "wall of Deak" that you experience in person.

I have Deak's albums which are great, but the live Deak experience is a force of nature to behold...

The gentleman dancing is Will Scarlett, who played with Hot Tuna back in the late 60s and early 70s. He is a trip to talk to. I attended his session during the teach-in.

I've seen Deak live three times. Talk about a man that can suck you into his groove. Notice how he changes up the right foot going to the draggy beat. I don't know if you can teach this or not.

He is as much or more an entertainer as any 100 mph harp player.

Good point Duane...what good are notes fast or slow - if a player hasn't the creative intuitive sense to develop a groove with those notes to set the stage for a musical storyline :)

Deak is a force of nature.

I agree with all posters. I couldn't be happier that he took his traveling show to SPAH. That's great. People mouth the phrase "keep the blues alive," but that's exactly what he's doing.

Somebody in the UK told me about a guy named Seasick Steve--how he went from selling 10,000 albums a year to selling 100,000, once things broke his way.

Deak, listen to me: get yourself over to the UK, by any means necessary, and get on TV. They need to see you live over there. You'll kill 'em.

I couldn't agree more with Adam. Deak go to Europe and get discovered. They would love you over there. You are unique and you're a great entertainer. I know I saw you in person 3 times at hill country.

I have a friend who plays throughout New England as a one man band. He has the drum thing like deak, but plays guitar in the style of Rev. Gary Davis and Son House, gets some deep grooves going, very accomplish. We were talking blues harp one night and I told him to check out Deak's one man band on Youtube. He was completely blown away the with the "wall of tone"he throws out and more amazed that he accomplished it with a harp rack! Let's face it, the man gets as heavy a tone if not deeper than a tight hand cup.
Yes the man could do the UK, but the European Continent would really be knocked out by him. Netherlands, Italy, Czech Republic, Turkey.....

Not for noting, but this clip sounds lousy compared to the other one that long one that starts with Will Scarlett dancing, it was on FB Why does it sound so distorted?
