Got a message from an online retailer mentioning a new harp fom Seydel called The Sampler. Looks like a chromatic but described as a double diatonic as it's two keys on one harp with the slider making the change. Not entirely certain I understand the point but there's bound to be someone here who's familiar with this.

I am interested in hearing how well it bends, for the diatonic player used to making notes happen that are not on the instrument.
It's solo tuned, is it not?

I have one (and it is for sale).. It is essentially two (2) solo tuned 12 hole harps in one. The player toggles between the 2 keys using the traditional slide which also has a locking mechanism on it so you can keep it one key or the other if desired.

Solo tuning is simply holes 4-7 on a standard diatonic except it repeats the root note. It is the same way a chromatic is tuned.

In the case of the Sampler, since the slide actually takes you to a different key harp, you lose some of the chromatic playability. Seydel has solved part of this by half-valving the instrument which gives it draw and blow bend capability.

The Sampler is a great 3rd position instrument and given that it is in C/G you get Dm and Gm playing capability in 3rd pos as well as expressive bends. The harp has the acrylic comb, upgraded mouthpiece, and stainless steel reeds.

Certainly not intending to take biz from your retailer but if you are seriously interested, I will do a quick You Tube demo video for you.

I purchased extra reeds for the one I have and had thought about putting it into Bebop Tuning where I would add a Bb and F to holes 4 and 8 eliminating the side-by-side notes and giving a blow C7 and blow G7 chord.

We are living in a great time to be a harmonica player. I bet this thing a masterpiece.

•solo-tuning in the keys of C and G
•three fulll oktaves in two keys*, conveniently swichable with the slider or lockable
•half-valving, some important bending notes (Bending: technique for lowering the notes)
•full sound, thanks to the Stainless-Steel reeds for dynamic playing and good tone response
•corrosion-free German Silver reedplates
•precision made acrylic comb – very airtight and durable
•optimized free-moving and air-tight slider-mechanism with innovative locking device for optional fixing of the pressed slider
•ergonomic mouthpiece with round holes (silver plated) for lip-friendly playing
•corrosion-free Stainless Steel covers, opened wide at the back for optimized sound projection
•variable slider setting: if the slider is turned 180° the instrument plays in G (open slider) and C (slider depressed) (default is C-->G after swapping the slider G-->C) - the mouthpiece must be unmounted to switch over the slider.

Rockin Ron has them for $189 and they com in A&D also.

Stainless Steel and an acrylic comb, these things might last to become family heirlooms passed down for 8 generations.

I gotta try one.
