The Iceman made a topic with Jerry Portnoys song, he said: "...one of my favorite songs for my students to learn." He gave me idea for new topic.
So, give a contribution,
what was your favorite songs for learning?
What would you recommend for beginner, intermediate players...?

That Portnoy tune is a very accessible one for beginning students.....to find and play the notes.

Of course, Jerry uses a lot of technique to create that monster tone, something that advanced beginners and intermediate players start to understand and use.

One could study "Juke" for a very long time and it will reveal a lot layer upon layer. A good song to learn, move on and come back to for deeper understanding of all things diatonicallybluesy cool.

Great topic Rarko. But huge.
A couple of Adam G's lessons spring to mind. I really like what learning the version of 'have a good time' did for me, and continues to do. Adam has a video lesson and tabbed 2 choruses, which teach so much. I went on to pick up the rest of the song. There's a lot in it I think, swing, time shifting, using the 3 hole to signify the chord, a great classic ending, octaves, a great set of big Walter turnaround variations, slaps, pulls...and great fun to play.

All These Blues on Paul Butterfield Blues Band was the 1st song I learned. It's fairly doable at least note wise.

Thanks for posting that "Have a good time" link...that looks like something I'd like to tackle.

I have learned a lot from playing along with Sonny Boy Williamson I. While the riffs are fairly simple, his treatment is very skilled. Once you've learned some of his approach you will have a nice bank of riffs to use. This is where Jerry Portnoy started with his lessons on sonic-junction.com. I also have tried to learn a lot of Little and Big Walter - I play Juke at least once every day.

As I've suggested on another thread I think Snooky Pryor and especially his "Shake My Hand" cd is an excellent starting off point for beginner to intermediate players.
Classic blues tunes like, Work With Me Annie, Someday Baby, Tomorrow Night, Telephone Blues and My Babe done with a really strong sense of shuffle beat and moving through the cord changes. Great deep tone using fairly simple call response type licks with good structure. Leaves lots of space. Solid simple comping on some guitar solos, again with strong chord changes.
He gets a bit repetative and I've found you only need one of his cd's to get what he does but as one of the first amplified blues players he's worth a listen especially for beginner amplified players.
