Ronnie posted this photo to Facebook today. He says these are his harps that "sound good and play well." Impressive.

I count about 70. My kit is about half that.

How many "good" harps do you have?

I wonder how he organizes them; "now, where did I put that F#?"

Speaking of organization, I've seen a couple of really good players lately who just jumble their harps together in a bag and have to rummage around picking up harps until they find the key they want. That'd drive me crazy.

Al Chesis (a pro harp guy in Denver) just throws them on the floor during a gig. He has an open harp case but he misses it every time.

Yes, and I wonder who worked on them--Ronnie told me he doesn't customize his harps.
BTW, he has pretty impressive breath control!

I have seven Marine Bands (1896 and Deluxe) that get constant use. All played straight out of the box, no gapping, no embossing. I've tweaked the tuning as they've needed it. If one breaks I'll buy a new one and when I have a few broken ones I'll get the necessary reeds replaced.

I bought a bunch of Marine Bands off Kingley last year and They are the nicest playing harps I have ever owned including my Customs so he must have done some work on them.
Hey Kingly what did ya do to make them Harps play so sweet?

Hey Steve, How's it going up in Newcastle?

Most of those Marine Bands you've got were ones that I'd customised a little. Some had screws fitted to replace the nails (some were already screw assembled). I gapped and very lightly embossed them and set the reed arcs. The combs were sealed with beeswax and flat sanded. The cover plates were also opened up on most if I remember correctly. Then most of them were tuned to Steve Bakers preferred tuning in his Harp Handbook. I think a couple were tuned to 7 Limit JI as well. Just all pretty basic stuff really. I'm glad you're enjoying them and that they've got a good home.

One time I bought a bunch of harps just to make a video on different harmonica models. Most of them haven't been played since.
