Thanks for posting this. I have had the privilege of seeing Tommy Emmanuel live twice here in San Diego. He is a great musician and entertainer. I love the way he uses his guitar as a percussion instrument. Note that it is all scarred up form using drumsticks and brushes on it.
The interplay here between Bob and Tommy is great. Bob plays at the same time as the vocals without stepping on the vocals. Each performer is contributing to the performance to make it better rather than showing skill for skills sake. This is enjoyable to watch and listen to, but there is also a lot to learn from this performance.
I heard one of my favorite musical jokes from Tommy during a performance.
Why do miners play guitar?
Because a guitar can play any key, but if you try to send a piano down a mine shaft, all you'll get is A flat miner!!
love Merle and that tune and that duo...Is that the guitar player keeping that loud backbeat goin strong on the 2 and 4? I see now - he has a drum track, sounds good though :)

Is it country, ismit blues, or is it country blues? OR is it simply good 2nd position harp work ? Surely its not "Modern Blues Harmonica." But Id argue that its whatever style you like, most everyone likes this....
That's some very nice playing, radar. It's 98% lip pursed, except for a very brief 25d excursion. It's an excellent example of "thin" tone--as opposed to all the words that have fetish value around here: big, thick, meaty, tone from hell, etc. It's a country style, as in Nashville. He's got a great sound on that 2 draw when he tails off and holds it. He's got a great groove and an extremely good sense of how to complement what Emmanuel is doing. No, it's not particularly modern, but I'm not sure what that term would mean here. It's sort of irrelevant. He's a sideman doing his best to complement the work of a virtuoso. He's not quite the virtuoso that Emmanuel is, but I don't think anybody cares about that, because he has plenty of audible strengths and no audible weaknesses. (He's not, for example, at the level of Todd Parrott, who WOULD razzle-dazzle as Emmanuel's sideman, if given the chance.) This is spirited, high-quality playing and the player--whose name was unfamiliar to me--deserves remembering.
