If there's any problems with the instrument (notes not playing etc) it has to be offered for spares or repair, so you'll get a working one if it's listed as one.

A new 64 will cost you around £120.00 or $185.00. You'll pick one up on Ebay for around £30.00 or $45.00. You could get it customised and still save money.

Also in my opinion, they made them far better back in the day. As it's usually people Ebaying their Uncle Henry's estate, they don't know that a 30 year old chrom is worth more than they auction them for.

I've bought 12 hole chroms for just a few pounds before.

Stevelegh - Do you know anyone in the UK that customises chromatics?

Sorry, I was being a little misleading with my comment. I was suggesting you could buy an Ebay unit, pay for customising and still make a saving.

That said, I think Tony Dannecker does. I haven't spoken with him for a year or two.

No worries. I was just asking as a lot of people ask me the same question.

My experience has been that squirrels/liars hang out anywhere, not just eBay.

That's a intriguing remark Joe. Undoubtedly true. I think I have heard the term 'squirrel', but I usually think of it as meaning someone who hides stuff away for their own use later on, maybe secretively...

Very true Joe, but for the prices you can buy a chrom for on Ebay and the dispute / feedback system, you're reasonably safe from a cost to quality ratio compared to buying a new one. Bear in mind OP is only looking for something to finish off a recording. He's not looking to use it full time.

Edit: Just thinking on this, there's probably a niché for someone to buy up old chroms and offer refurbed units.

I was GIVEN a like new 270 a few years ago and have never bothered to use it since it's a clunky badly working harmonica. I do have a Hering and a Suzuki or two that work so much better. In fact I tried to sell the 270 on fleabay and had NO takers even at a very low price. Still have it. Nice paperweight.

you can wind up with a real lemon buying a chro from E-bay. a friend just did. it was a 64 and somehow the previous owner blew out several reeds on the upper register. those are the reeds that dogs hear for miles around.

I've got another one ... has the plastic comb. It is the older style but I put stainless screws in it. Also put a center post on it to brace the covers. Probably still crush if a horse stepped on it, but I'm betting it would take being run over by a Harley.

$45 and shipping
