There has been a few references to Cigar Box Guitars lately. So thought i'd put mine up.Got the bug about 6 months ago .When i wound up the strings on the first one i could of used used it as a bow and arrow set .lol I'd recommend CBG to anyone who likes playing slide. You can get playing in about 5 minutes.Tuned open all you have to do strum it then is put the slide on it and find your 1V and V chords. Mine are fretless have two piezo's two volume controls and a three way switch to give some tone/volume variations.Cost about $50 each to make. One is a genuine Cigar box the other two with all the bling are self made boxes. They aren't much good for acoustic(too quiet) but put 'em through a pedal(DGR200) into an amp they sound great ,real delta /swamp blues tone. Lotsa fun.You don't need fancy tools or a workshop mine were made with handtools on our BBQ table.
@Spackle Man that's an unusual design but hey it CBG and it sure works. You are way ahead of me in playing ability you were playing 'proper' chords an all.Nice stuff, all i do is play the 1 1v V (and the 3rd and 12th of course) with just basically strumming ,but i am working on some finger pickin' @Hobo It was some of your posts that got me started on this CBG thing in the first place. So it's your fault ..the wife will be in touch.
I'm looking at buying one, 3 or 4 string i don't know, i like slide, i like the feel and emotion you can develop and get on down!!!!!!!....make a few bt's with Audacity, play some harp, see what happens. I'm in hardcore research atm..........and i can edit my posts. (other blog thing)...But maybe this blog should be restricted to another site, there's a guy on "expert village" yt, doing some simple? but cool riffs on dobro slide, i want to incorporate this with harmonica, this is the reason i'm feelin the need for slide.....if you's get my drift.

Oh Yes, some lovely skills on display here, both buildwise and playing. Hey Spacle I bet you were mad when you fitted the box to the neck and came back to check that the glue had dried only to realize that you had fixed the neck in the wrong way round!, Te He, only joking, that's a really cool and different thing that you have done there. And Ray what can I say, you remain the MAN, always cool always so charming and always so bloody talented.
@Jehosaphat: Thanks ! I wanted my CBG to be headless, have fanned frets, and six strings, so it is a little unusual. I want to do another one since I have had a year of lessons with a classical guitar builder.
@isaacullah: Thanks for the instructional video. I don't relish the thought of putting 4000 winds on a magnet by hand.

If you dont want to spend alot of money or try to build a custom pick up,You can do a nice build with a basic single coil pick up,That can be got from ebay or gitty's for less than 10 Bucks,I built a 4 string fretted build with a cheap single coil i had at the house and it rocks, on distortion and you can crank it up with hardly any feedback problems.
And I would think that the cheap humbuckers they sell would work real good ,maybe even better.
