Hi all you knowledgeable amp freaks, I have a multimedia Amplitude Fender programme on my computer that I feed in and out from a Steinberg Interface. Don't ask me how it works but it changes the sound to that of any Fender amp ( something to do with converting analogue to digital, (or whatever). I then feed out to one of a couple of amps, main one being a Laney LA65D Acoustic (probably not the best for the harp) the other a home made 12v set up I use for busking and practice. My question that I hope to get some answers on is what is the preferred Fender amp, probably that used by the early Chicago harp blues men, or if anyone is familiar with the programme, any recommendations on the best Fender amp or set up to get some cool sounds. There are so many to choose from it's all a bit confusing!! Though It does indeed have a 59 Bassman on board!
Cheers and thx in advance

I'm not familiar with the software, but if you want an early Chicago sound from an emulator, then I'd suggest trying the tweed amp models. Look for Champ, Princeton, Deluxe, Bassman. Also the Blackface models like Princeton, Super Reverb and the Brownface Fender Concert. Those should give you a later Chicago style sound.

I keep hearing that the Fender Harvard w/10" speaker is one of the best vintage amps ever. I haven't played through one, so I can't confirm that. The Champ is hard to beat. Butter played through a twin Reverb but you might need a mod program to make it harp friendly. (Is it true Little Walter played through a Mac?)

I'll play around a bit and see if I can record some outputs on various Fender amps as suggested and see what the results are, watch this space. Thanks for input

My DigiTech pedal has much the same thing going on, further complicated with speaker cabinet options. I am still in the process of mixing & matching, then saving the sounds I like. I don't believe there is a lot of authenticity in the modeling and the variables approach infinite.

Having said all that, I think I am currently leaning towards a Twin Reverb through a Sunn 4x12 setting, IIRC.

the best thing about a modeler is that you get to try out all of these sounds to see what *you* like best. my first inclination with modeling amps (vox vt-30 and fender mustang) was to use the "classic" amp models for harp. but i found that none of them sound nearly as good, to me, as the vox ac-30 tb models.

i still play with the others on occasion, when i want a different sound. i was asked to sit in on an acoustic "help me rhonda" last week, and found one of the fender models gave me a more natural sound for that. but by and large, the ac-30 one is the sound i want.

Appreciate all the feedback. Certain styles and songs do need a different sound and with 13 amps and up to 25 pre loaded settings for each I've got a lot to play around with! Ah we'll I think I'll lock myself away in the studio and annoy the dog for a day or two. And on that subject anyone own a dog that doesn't howl when you play harp? It really gets difficult when I try to record something in a not so soundproof studio. Background effect of a wailing hound dog doesn't work for every track!!

I think the dog is probably in pain.

I knew someone would come back with something like that!! However he does it with any harmonica trax. I've actually got an old track of an early blues harper (name escapes me at the minute) who introduces his dog and gets him to howl along. I've tried that but my dog just cannot get in the right key!!!

Ha, thats uncle Charlie and his dog teddy I think, nitty gritty dirt band album.
I have a cat which has to go out whenever there's a harp to be played. But especially if I play red river valley (which I only ever do to stir her up) she tries to get harp out of my mouth!
