PB belongs in the hall of fame. Its that simple.

I dug the footage of him with Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan! Didn't know that happened. I'd like to see more of that show. It it available?

Gotta say PB played a pivotal in ''desegregating" the blues. I'd probably not be writing this post had I not heard him back in the mid 60's. All us white boys might still be groovin' to that Mercy beat (heaven forbid!!) Long Overdue is an understatement. I'm with Greg on the SRV/King/Butterfield clip. I'd love to see that full vid.

Disagree with JD Hoskins her: That "Thrill is gone" clip is almost painful to watch because it´s so obvious that here the thrill IS gone. He seems very frail. But, interestingly, the thrill is back for that BB King concert.

Personally I don´t care one iota for Halls of fame and 10 best list and whatever, but if there´s some attention being drawn to the excellent stuff the PBB Band and Better Days put out it´s of course a good thing.

I have to agree with Martin. I don't really care much for Halls of fame and Top ten Lists either. As Martin rightly says though any attention being drawn to Butterfield is a good thing. It's such a shame that so many of the great musicians are taken from us so early.

It's my opinion that if Paul Butterfield hadn't picked up the harmonica and gone to the Southside, none of us would be here on this forum.

Yeah ted I dunno. The thing was happening in Europe already and mussel white was doing his thing. I hadn't really heard much of butter field at all until this decade. Was he really THAT influential? I think the British thing would have happened, the blues crossover and consequent boost would have still happened. But maybe you are meaning something else? I don't mean he wasn't a big deal but I don't think he was a one man blues revival...

I meant harmonica players that came after him; he was one of those musicians who changed the way the instrument is played and changed the musical form as well. He wasn't a one man blues revival, as we see with Bloomfield, Musselwhite, Steve Miller, Seigle Schwall, the Blues Project. Butterfield spearheaded the American Blues Revival and it's a fact. His musical influence is likewise profound--Chicago blues, raga, jazz, soul music. Butterfield and his guys were ahead of the curb. He was that influential, yes.

Well yeah, ok. I'm really not trying to pick a fight, just wondering at the statement "none of us would be here on this forum". I mean its really only through being on this forum that I've come to appreciate the esteem in which PB is held. I should say, I probably still don't really get it but I haven't really paid enough attention probably. I'm aware he's a big influence on people whom I admire, but personally I haven't gone there. Beyond born in Chicago.
What do you see as PBs major contributions or aspects of his work I'd do well to examine?
