What were the most three recent shows that you've seen which featured a harmonica player? Do not include yourself.

1. Last night, I went to a jam hosted by Aki Kumar. John Nemeth was his special guest. There were about a half dozen other harp players in the audience, not to mention some tremendous other musicians that were in the house.

2. This past Sunday, I was in Chicago. I dropped by a neighborhood bar and saw Dave Waldman, Scott Dirks and Martin Lang. They sounded fantastic playing through a Fender Blues Jr. Guest vocalists included: Milwaukee Slim and Tail Dragger. Following a singer and showman like Tail Dragger is a challenge.

3. In the middle of November, RJ Mischo passed through town. I saw him several times during the week he was in town.

4. One extra. During the week that RJ Mischo was in town, I also managed to see Gary Smith at Aki Kumar's fine jam.

What were your last three show and who did you see?

Been awhile, but I think the order was (Gruenling and Guyger) then Guyger, then Gruenling...How was Martin, and I would think John N. would be tuff to follow too?

I've never met another player in person either and I only saw one perform, but he wasn't really a harmonica player. He was just filling in after his guitar solo.

I saw The Rebecca Angel Bigger Show last night. One of their percussionists pulled out a harp on a couple numbers. I talked to him after the show. He was good. The topic came around to alternate tunings, and I had a LO Harmonic Minor in my pocket. I tried to show him something and I couldn't find the hole I was supposed to start on. I can play it backwards and forwards. I was probably just out of breath. When I get to talk to another harp player in person I get a little excited. There isn't a ton of harp around here.

None of the three acts that I saw the night before had any harp, although the one band had a trumpet player and the other had a violin. It was a slow night and if I'd had my bag of harps with me the one band leader would have let me up on stage with them. I've played at some open mics with him before.

The Midnight Society plays a little harp, and some other strange instruments. Jim is a rack player and I don't think I've heard him play anything but first position. They are great. I love their music. They use a stylophone. (sp?) The one real show we had before we broke up, our band opened for them. I've felt terrible that we haven't been able to return the favor.

Before that, huh, it's been a long time. Ah, wow, that was a long time. That would have been Adam in Piermont. Earlounge was there too.
