I thought long and hard about one of those. But, I've never owned a Special 20 so I think I'll stick with the MB side. I should have a stage 2 done any time now. Eventually I want a whole set.

Aaaaagh, man am I frustrated. I didn't read the bit about US customers only, so I have missed out. I'm not sure what the difference is provided we are happy to pay the extra postage. RR responded quickly and was very nice about it in his email and it was explained on the Special 20 page.

Oh well, I guess I have to think about a 6 month wait to order one from Joe directly and consider a nice Suzuki harp for Christmas.

All that seem to be expensive but a good saxophone ( and to adjust and maintain it ) is very expensive .
@CarlA : i left school in 75 and never went to USA , neither UK...i may have misunderstood .sorry .

@jiceblues

I was NOT making fun of you. I was simply making a light-hearted comment about it taking 4-6 months to receive a custom harp from joe. I think that all of us would love to have so much work that we were booked 6 months behind, especially in this current economy.
There was no disrespect intended to anyone, just a joke "gone bad"-lol!
In fact, I just yesterday placed an order for one of joe's custom sp 20. I too can't wait to receive it!

Today I received my Spiers Stage 1 SP20 in C from Rockin' Ron's. It is a very fine harp, plays beautifully. Well worth the $125, I think. My only complaint (not really a complaint) is that the harp is not signed by Joe.

My new Xover in A from MF for $37 also arrived. A pretty good day for new harps.

Rick,

It should be signed on upper reed plate! Look there, at least that is where Joe signed mine.

Carl, you are right! Signed and dated. I didn't look there. The last time I played a Spiers harp it was signed on the comb.

Having only 6 months playing experience I may be a bit away from a +$125 harmonica. I'm trying a variety of harps and have found that even though the Special 20 is one of the less expensive ones I find the lower profile of the cover plates and the recessed reed plates to be very comfortable. But I also find the comb has edges that are sharper than I'd like. Does anyone know of a good method to round the comb edges like Joe does?

I've played this harp more, and holy moly... it is nice. My problem is I'll rarely gig it because it is so damn good I don't want to abuse it. I put a Manji in its place in my gigging kit.

Well, I actually have two gigging kits: One for normal stuff and one for big shows or recording. The Spiers harp is now in the latter kit and a Manji moved down to the "normal" set of harps.

Do you guys have two sets like that?

Rick, I have almost full sets from 6 builders.Since they all play differently,I'm not sure it helps.I think I remember someone saying to practice with what you play.

Yes , BLUEHARPER , i think you're right. JJ MILTEAU says that he always plays OOTB harps , but i know he has a few custom harps .Many "top players" say you'd better practice on what you have , and they all have custom harps or tweak by themseves...ha ha...
Many of us want to see if it's better with customized harp...and we all know that the secret is : PRACTICE .
