I know this has probably been touched on a time or two already, but I'd like to get a fresh look from everyone. I just secured my Alamo Fury, which is turning out to be a killer amp and I'm very happy with it. However, I'd like to get some reverb going as well. I had toyed with the idea of a standalone unit like a Lafayette or an EVJ Hot Rod, but I think I'm gonna keep it simple with a pedal.

I sold off my Digitech RP90 because it just didn't give me the sound I was wanting. I'm now looking at getting just a simple reverb pedal. The Boss Fender '63 has caught my eye. The EH Holy Grail is another possibility. I'm not really wanting a delay. Strictly a reverb. Anyone have a good recommendation to put forth on this?

I've been happy with a Boss RV-5.

I'm using the "Wet" reverb - I like it a lot. It has a nice high impedance input too so it won't suck tone.

HK: I use the EH holy grail with a small fender champ clone a friend built for me. I use it for guitar and love it and you can find them on craigslist cheap. Walter

Buy a delay.

If you plan on using verb live, my suggestion is to just play dry. For one, reverb can wash out the tone, for a second it can feedback pretty quickly, and third, most rooms will have their own effect anyways.

Finally, if you mic the amp, most boards can add verb in. In all my time monkeying with gear, I've found reverb to be the biggest PIA live. Delay is more important to me than a good amped tone. I'd be fine eqing a clean signal FOH if I could just add a touch of delay.

For recording, verb is much more awesome.

I picked up a 'Wet' after playing Greg's once. It is pricey, but a very nice verb. It has a 'shimmer' that's a little 'delay like' to my ear. I like it more than the Holy Grail I had before it - but - - - I am tending more and more to stick with my delay pedal -the tc electronic Flashback, which has many possible different sounds, some of which are 'verb-like'. There are other choices of course. the Carbon Copy, - danelectro pedals etc. If you haven't messed with a delay pedal much - do so before going back to a reverb. There are times where I will use a touch of verb on top of the delay - but I'm doing this less so these days.

I had and used a Line 6 Verbzilla for a while. It was a good pedal. After the honeymoon period was over, I realized that I rarely used it, so I sold it.

I disagree with the comment about delay being more important than tone. Tone is damn near everything.

The two I like have both been discontinued. For a pure reverb pedal I like the Ibanez AD9 Analog Delay Pedal. What I use most often is a Boss RV-3 with Delay and Reverb.

I haven't tried it but, I've heard good things from several people about the Boss FDR-1 that Rick recommended.

I'm not a big reverb guy... I prefer delay. But when I tried that Boss FDR-1 pedal I was impressed. It gives a nice tone.

Probably overkill for what you are looking for but the Van Amps Sole-Mate is an excellent spring reverb pedal. I prefer spring reverb.

As stated above, I said "amped tone". The PA doesn't scare me and in a live situation would be 100% fine with a well eq'ed sound from the PA. I'd rather bring a delay pedal than an amp or tone pedal. I am finding even with my bullet mic, I end up just eqing my sound via Para DI and use next to know speaker emulation or drive.

Amps are the most overrated piece of the gear equation, and also the most expensive. Give me a great dynamic mic and some delay and that can cover literally any gig with harmonica.

+1 on the Van Amps Sole-Mate. I've tried big outboard units from Premier and Fender (reissue) as well as the Peavy Valverb and various pedals. The Sole-Mate beats them all for sheer quality of tone. A bit pricey at $269 new but I picked up mine for $179 on Ebay. Can't imagine anything better. It's only draw back is that it needs a somewhat unique power supply but that is easily obtainable direct for Van Amps for I think $13.

Here's another vote for the Holy Grail; good tone at a great price IMHO.
