Rob is awesome. Having hung out with him and heard him play, he is a treasure to the harmonica world.
I am going to humbly submit a very primitive YouTube jam I did with a SUB 30. It is a jam and not a formal song. I hope to post an "amped" clip this week. Unfortunately, I'll have to record direct and do audio only.
There are issues with the SUB 30 OOTB, but most are easily fixed with basic gapping skills. I would say that most blues players will be frustrated with holes 1-3 on most keys, though.
I talked to a friend last night about the SUB vs Overbending. I think it can be proven rather objectively that the SUB has the same issues as an Overbend harp in every regard other than lead times.
An example of this is intonation. If you listen to anyone playing the SUB, you hear the same sort of "not quite right" sound on the added bends as people don't hit them to pitch. In certain styles, this is fine and the same effect as traditional bends. In the context of trying to play jazz and classical on a diatonic, you have issues.
IME, a well put together overbend harp is a more consistent and reliable instrument than the SUB 30.
