I have a hundred.
I am guessing (not gussing)--this includes chromatics.
I dreamt of harps last night--no kidding, and my case was all messed up--does that make it a nightmare?

Nothing to be proud of in my case. After something like 40 years of playing, I've got drawers of the wretched little things.
I travel a lot, I'm really quite untalented and ham-fisted at tuning and tweaking, and I love buying the "custom" work of others so I can compare subtleties and techniques.
I'd have to wait until this weekend whan I'm back home to count, but I'll bet I have more than 200 in various states of decay.
Like I said, nuthin to be proud of.

The more you tweak, the better you get--and it sounds like you can make lots of mistakes before you run out of harps!
I do the thing where folks send in huge batches of their broken crap and they get harps back. Hit me up if you want help . . .

I have 70 to or so, the twenty five that are playable, and the others that have been retired to a big bottom drawer.

A lot less than I had. I went through the inventory and trashed a bunch and I still have a lot. I sent a bunch of them to MP for repair. I now have less than a dozen dead ones and many that are now usable. I probably have 65 or 70 that are in usable condition and another dozen that need repairs.

I cleaned my work "man cave" this week...I probably have 50 of my own plus another 25 laying around plus another 75 or so that are either orders or extras plus another 50 or so in various states of broken/parted out.

I'd be very comfortable saying there are at least 200 in my house.

Wow, I'm going to bookmark this thread and bring it up whenever my wife asks me if I "really need another one".

... At negotiations for my pay raise I actually thought: "That's another two harps a month" ;D

"Jews harps count?"

We're all very tolerant here. Harps, no matter what denomination.

Including all my cheapies and mantle pieces....I'd ballpark it around 80 or 90.

Sidenote: I picked up a cheapie at Kohl's over the weekend for ten. It's a crap harp, but the coverplates are andonized blue. Very nice looking and probably transplantable.

Working, decent quality harps, as of today I have a full set, low F to regular F#, a LLF, a Huang Mussette C/C# pair (tremolos), and a partially customized C :). I've also got 1 natural minor and 1 harmonic minor. I've still got a C tremolo Blessing that my grandmother gave me as a kid. I didn't learn to play it until probably 25 years later. A C Hohner Puck, and a G. I've got a Chrometta too.

I've got an A Sp20 that has one wonky reed, and for my birthday this year I got a Turboslide. I've also got 3 Marine Bands and a Huang I bought used on eBay. I thought I was going to be able to get past my OCD to get them fixed up, but still haven't gotten around to it. I've got two sets of Piedmonts (cheap cases!). One D Piedmont was a trooper and was actually my go to harp for quite a while. I've got some Blues Band types that I experimented with customizing on. I have a lousy (worst harp I've ever seen) plastic covered tremolo. I bought it to look inside a tremolo that I didn't care about though, so I don't feel too ripped off. (It's got silver (aluminum?) reed plates with normal colored reeds).

I've got some all plastic harmonicas too. I haven't gotten enough of them yet- the goal is 12 colors of vintage Magnus harps to mount for a harmonica clock. I've got a cream colored one. I got a Magnus Jr. in blue, but I don't like it. I've also got a blue and cream Royal harmonica. I wanted a cheap collectible an plastic harmonicas seemed to fit my price range at about $10 a piece, but I always forget to keep an eye out for them.

Before my old hard drive crashed I had tons of pictures of vintage harps. I love the look of old harps. There was one, an Admiral, that I got carried away with myself in a bidding contest on eBay for. I got outbid at the last second for $120, which would be more than I've ever spent on one harmonica myself. (My Turboslide cost about that, but I got it as a present.)

My name is Nathan, and I have a problem, and admitting I have a problem is the first step to recovery. :)

And now, that's got me thinking... I've joked before about an entire set of re-tuned Pucks to cover all the keys... but how about custom combs!

Pretty good question here..
Without hijacking thread.. I would ask How many harps v. how many harps your wife knows about...

I've got so many sitting around when the A/C kicks on you hear a giant chord that sounds like a church organ.

Actually the question should really be: How many harps do you play regularly? Then maybe you can get rid of a few!

I have about 20 harps in working order. I usually have 4 in my pocket at any time and I rotate them so I practice on all the harps. Carrying them around has risks. I have misplaced my Seydel Low F and I am afraid it is gone for good. Murphy's law, the one you lose is the most costly of the bunch!

I also have Bawu in C. It has one reed,it will sound on both blow and draw, but draw notes are not too useful. Like a harp, it can be played easily in G also. I just picked up Pat Missin's book on the Bawu and can now get some pretty good melodies out of it (the Bawu, not Pat's book).Next time I go to China I will get a couple of more keys.

I also have Dizi (Chinese bamboo flute)in C, D and F but these are much harder to play and the only thing they have in common with the harmonica is the need to change instruments to change keys.

Harvey, thanks. Over the last year I have made some great progress in working on them. MB drilling, sanding, open covers, tuning and gapping. I only enjoy it a little though. The reason that only 1/3 are "working" is because that's plenty to play -which is what they're all about. :)

I have around 42 harps which I use live. 19 keys Seydel 1847 plus spares for almost all 19 keys 1847 or Session Steel or Hohners (Ab, B, E, Eb, F#). I still don't have 1847 LowDb. I also use Big Six in F, chromatics - saxony orchestra as main chromatic, one of three swan 1664, Hering 64.

Also I have some harps just to show assortment (Seydel tremolo, octave, mini, hohner little lady, Seydel LLF, Seydel HA, Big Six Folk C, 1847 PowerChromatic in C).

Also at home I have assortment of Bb harps to compare models. I own Manji, B-Rad (wish to sell after optimizing), Golden Melody, Special 20.
Also some Hohner harps which was a gifts (I don't sell gifts) GM in C, G, A.

4 used harps are waiting to be sold.
5 new Session Steel harps for my students.

About 20 harps out of tune or with some problems (Hohner chromatic with cracked comb, 3 or 4 hering chromatics out of tune, some trash and monster harps (like attempts to put Suzuki Reedplates to Hohner Silverstar combs, using wax to fill leakages), some cheap Hohners in experimental tuning.

So it looks that I have around 80 harps at home. While I played Hohner I once counts about 100 harps.
