Drove 150 miles and saw this show last night (worth every mile)...with Rod Piazza, Kim Wilson, James Harman, Lynwood Slim and others....The Mighty Mojo Prophets backup band was outstanding, really good stand up bass.. Lynwood slim was recovering from an illness, but played and sang well. Nathan James and the Rhythm Scratchers played Maxwell Street style, and were a great opening band..Kim Wilson playing though both a Fender Concert and an old dark brown original bassman, married together- absolutely stole the show. He never ceases to blow me away...I wasn't timing him, but I think he played a 15 minute solo... see you there next year!

John Frazer wanted me to go with him but I had a gig--
Wonder if he went? He says he goes every year . . .
John plays killer harp and drums at the same time, also sings . . . he is the guy behind the La Mesa Spring Harp Fest, and got me started with harmonica when we were in a band together in the early 80's.
Kim Wilson does seem to be the man, huh . . .

the show was absolutly killer!!Lynwood slim is still amazing even after his illness, Nathen James and the rythem scratchers opened the show, Nathen James original wash board guitar with the ax handle neck was friggin cool,BUT""""" it was Kim Wilson who stole the show. His set up was outstanding as far as the sound the clearity not to distorted that you could'nt make out what he was playing, the two old fender amps linked together with his Watkins echo effects just souned awsome, he played through two different mics, one a 520 green bullet with a CR, and the other was what looked like aa american T-5 I believe with a crystal,The man is just a class act, I got him to sign oneof my old chrom's and got to chat with him a small bit as he was setting up.on the other hand Rod Piazza.......well he was Rod Piazza his big 'ol harp king amps with a modified Bassman that was the harp players from the Mighty Mojo's band all looped together made for a very muddy sound way too distorted ???? but thats his signiture sound he sounds that way everytime I've heard him play...It's a shame the place cleared out and we left after a couple of songs.
It's a great show for so-cal on a holiday weekend it my 5th year in a row to see it, we'll seewho shows up next year.
