Hi guys well Christmas is approaching fast and Mrs P is asking for prezzie suggestions but I have a problem, my rig is pretty much sorted having bought all of kingleys giging gear a few weeks back BUT I can't waste the oppertunity to get more kit!
I was looking into the Lone Wolf pedals and I was wondering if the Harp Break pedal would be a good idea.
I have a VHT 6 and I am using a JT30 and a EV RE10 through a Delay Pedal and that sounds real nice but needs to be quite loud to break up which is a bit antisocial in the kitchen, would the Harpbreak make a dicernable diference to this set up? maybe allowing me to get a dirty sound at more Home friendly volume levels what do you think.

The LW pedal will add some bass and depending on the level of Gain you dial in, a lot of tube like distortion. Works well on my Champs (8 and 10 inch speakers).

I have a L/W octave pedal and a Harp Break (delay will be next)
Now this is just my findings re the pedals and probably others have different opinions.
Through my Vht 6 the harp break does what you want ie more breakup at lower volume on the amp.
The 'trick' with both of these pedals is to lower the gain knob in ratio to how high you turn up the volume knob.
A little gain goes a long way.
With the VHt it seems to prefer just the Harp break alone and not to be daisy chained with other distortion pedals(haven't tried delay) but my Blues Deville loves the HB and the Octave chained into the effects loop.
All the above is based on a Astatic T3 C/M.
The Harp break is a great pedal and really shines plugged into a SS PA for those times when thats all you've got.
I'd tell Santa to bring you one(and me a L/W delay)^

I know it's a well-regarded pedal. For me, it's my least useful pedal. I'm still trying to find a good application. If you have an amp which is too clean at the volume you need to play at, it's probably useful. As long as you aren't close to feedback at that volume. IME, the harp break will cause feedback at a lower volume than I otherwise encounter. There could be some variables involved though; I've only tried it a handful of times.

Risking a revisit to an old topic I'm hoping to hear any new opinions regarding Harp Attack v Harp Break. Like Geordie I'm hoping to get more break up at reasonable home volume levels. The impression I have is the Attack might be smoother and less extreme than the Break.

I have a Harp Octave & Harp Break in front of a VHT Special 6. I use an Ultimate 57 & EV 635a. I concur with all the above info, that's pretty much what I have experienced with the pedals of interest. Harp Break will get the break up you're looking for at low volume. It's a fun pedal. When you crank the amp you will get feedback.

I can use the Harp Octave as a boost for solo's or occasionally with HB or even by itself. It has great anti feedback qualities as advertised. And it clearly has it's own gritty voice that is really different than the HB. I'm glad I have both, I can get a lot of different tones. Here's my pedalboard order;

wireless> HB> HO> Carbon Copy delay> BBE Sonic Stomp> DI box into the VHT & also into a Tech21 Power 60 for larger louder gigs. IMO I would start with the HB first.

Why Aye Man!

We have similar setups. I also have a modded VHT and was interested in getting a dirtier sound. On advice from other people I have tried the Lone Wolf pedals. Whilst they add to my sound they haven't achieved the effect I was looking for. I tried the Octave and Harp Break.

The Octave breaks up the sound, but with my set up, it sounds very grainy to me. It wasn't a natural sound, I wasn't keen.

The Harp Break sounds better to me but it is not 'Very Dirty'. However with the HB you also get a Bass Boost +20db which really gives me a fuller tone. It's worth it to me for that. The Alnicomagnet mod that I did gives me treble cut, but this gives me Bass boost.

The biggest difference I have got with my set up was changing the speaker. After advice on here from Rick Davis I bought an Eminance Lil Buddy, which I really like over the stock. At first I was a bit disappointed but after playing it in, I really like the tone. Not 'very' dirty but more organic.

I think the bottom line is that the VHT is not a 'dirty' amp and for almost the price of a HB pedal here in the UK you could get a Fender Champion 600, which from what I have seen on YouTube does break up at lower volumes.

These are just my observations, with a similar set up to you, but through slightly different mics: Ultimate 57/Shure 520/Akai DM13. If you ever get anywhere near Staffordshire you are welcome to try my set up.

Cheers

Martin
