I live in Portland Maine.

Pretty underwhelming up this far. Rain and wind through last night. It's pretty much burned out now as far as I can tell.

Looks clear here now, but I haven't been out to see what the rest of town is like, and we certainly didn't get the worst of it.

I spent all day driving in that snow, which fell on top of a day's worth of rain. It was crazy. I started at 630 ft. above sea level. It was all slush. I thought "this isn't so bad."
Immediately when I left the Kanawha Valley, I mean close enough if I'd had a pistol I could've shot the river, it was a whole different world. My first hill, I go up 50 feet in elevation, just 50 feet! and it was a whole different world. That slush wasn't slush. It was ice and I got stuck in it and had to rock my way out. When you got up to 1,200 feet, it was crazier. When you got up to 2,000 feet, it was crazier still. How long your hurricane precip had been snow depended on your elevation. Up in what we West Virginians call "the Mountains" which to us, is the part of West Virginia that's go up to 3,000 feet or 5,000 feet, they got snow the whole dang time and had like three feet or something. That was of wet snow. Had it been dry powdery snow, it might have been a million feet.

This would have been a storm of legend, had it not been for the derecho we had at the end of June. That one actually hit us with hurricane force winds. I actually did drive 60 miles for groceries that time. After that derecho, which nobody in W.Va. knew what the hell the word meant before June 30, people were prepared. Both my parents and grandmother bought a natural-gas generator after that. Those things aint' cheap.

we were without power or heat for 4 days; many still don't have it. many roads still blocked by downed trees and wires. it's like running a maze trying to get anywhere. i'm in NJ, but inland, so we didn't get hit nearly as badly as those at the shore.

not fun. thought i did put my vox mini3, which runs on batteries, to some good use.

They told that "marathonians" were going to help...
Wonder if it's true.

Hello Harpers,my internet has been down for a while because of the storm and thank god I live 10 minutes from the beach on the mainland. We had alot of downed trees and no power for a couple of days.I went to Long Beach Island to work for the last two days gutting the first floor of one of my customers houses and all I can say is LBI is a total mess. Some areas where the beach was replenished were fine but the ocean met the bay in 7 different areas.4 to 5 feet of sand on alot of the ocean roads, boats scattered all over the place, some houses on the ocean fell in and they say it will take 4 months to restore the gas main for heat.I really consider myself a very blessed person compared to others not so fortunate. If anyone knows Beach Haven West on the mainland before the bridge, most of the houses are on lagoons. They got 3 to 4 ft of water in they,re houses and the contents of the homes sit street after street, after street in front of they,re homes. Its down right ugly and as much as I,m sure things will get rebuilt as time goes on but unfortunately it will never be the same.Back over today to resume cleanup.

So sorry for all the folks suffering back there. We used to vacation on Long Beach Island when I was a kid (now on the west coast). Wanting to help but feeling helpless. And now the 'noreaster'. Hope you are all staying warm enough.

A few music buddies of mine including the great Steve Freund are from Brooklyn but CA based - planning a benefit for November 27 in Vallejo, CA for NY&NJ victims. I will be among the performers.

I live in NYC {Brooklyn}, and Staten Island, The Rockways {in Queens} and Red Hook areas were devastated by flooding. I mean seriously. Some lost everything, most lost cars, basements....in Rockaway Queens the power is still out and there is no idea when it will come back. Many Long Island and NJ coastal areas are the same, a complete disaster.

Thanks for anything that anyone can do.
