Born in Charleston WV. When I was in the fourth or fifth grade, I was given a harp and taught to play "Just a Rose Will Do" and some other hymns by an old Hungarian man next door. Fast forward more than a few years (now age 55), living in Roanoke Va., picked up a harp again to pass the time while driving. One night a couple of years ago, a friend caught me (hiding) jamming to Steve and Steve Blues Band at Tomahawks in Charleston WV. I was forced on to stage at gun point, knees knocking, I chain sawed my way through a few riffs with minimal embarrassment. I later stumbled across Adam on U Tube, downloaded some lessons.... now I'm hooked.

Born and raised as a farm boy in extreme Western Kentucky. Resident of Huntsville, Alabama for 26 years.
Only been playing for around 6-8 months. Found a harmonica in my desk (Hohner Big River) that was given to me by my kids over 20 years ago and got the itch to try to learn the thing again. Started scratching and the itch got worse, so now I'm hooked.

It has great tips for posting photos, links, and videos and a link to a Google Map of where different forum members are from. Feel free to drop a pin in for yourself (you need a Google account). If you need anything, just ask. There are no stupid questions, only tongue blockers. :) (Just kidding.)

Michelle LeFree plays harp in Montrose, Colorado.

Originally from Denver, lived in Ann Arbor for 20 years before moving back to the mountains. Always a blues nut, only started harp 6-7 years ago (~after~ I moved away from Madcat's hometown -- stupid me!).

Love blues, roots, old-timey music. Play diatonics, rhythm bones & jawharps.

Born in the same city as Lee Oskar, København, two months before him. Moved to Canada when I was two, brought my parents with me. My route after that-- Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Nanaimo, Vancouver, Prince Rupert. The last three are in British Columbia. Longest stay in any city was Vancouver, 23 years. I'm old, just like Lee Oskar.

Probably the wrong thread for this, but one of my musical highlights was playing for 14,000 people at a rock festival, a one hour set on stage with Canned Heat and John Lee Hooker. I did not pretend I could fill Al Wilson's shoes, but got right into John Lee's endless boogie. It was a blast. I cherish the memory.

The little fishing town I now live in has one, maybe two real blues players besides me. It's tough! he said, crying into his Tuborg.

Newbie to the forum and new to the harp (8 months)but everyone's got to start somewhere so first of all I'd like to say hi to everyone.

I was born and raised in Irvine (Scotland), wished it was Irvine California but no such luck.

Spent fifteen years in the army so travelled around the world a fair bit but for some reason my wife wanted to come back here, god knows why. She's now my ex wife!

I look forward to some rapid learning now I'm on the forum.

My name is Guy Peled... Newbie to the forum and new to the harp as well (1 year)... but since I saw the magic of the little instruments through the eyes of players like Adam and Jason I cannot put it down... The only time I am not playing is when it is inappropriate... work mainly... or when my lips are too sore to play...

I am 34 married with two kids and living in Israel.. Own my own IT company... hoping I could make my employees play harp as well :-)

I am starving for communication with harp players as it's not like playing guitar... it's kind of lonely and in Israel it is even lonelier...

I have a facebook page which I document my journey and share resources that I find useful at my level... which is the level of an enthusiastic beginner... You can see it here.

my first post... :-)

Here it is, I was looking for this thread the other day but couldn't find it.
Wow, a little bit of my life story. I was born in Harriman, TN. in June of '61, my birth mom was dying of breast cancer and was in a coma the last month and a half of her pregnancy. Before she went into a coma her and my birth father adopted out my next older brother Kenny because they knew she was dying and papa wouldn't be able to take care of all of the kids alone. There was 8 of us total, two girls that were the oldest and counting me 6 boys. Anyway, Kenny was adopted out and 9 days after I was born momma died and I was adopted out. I spend the 1st 11 years of my life in Taylor, MI.(SW of Detroit) then we moved to Brownsburg, IN(16 miles W. of Indianapolis) after High School we moved to Phoenix, AZ. where I stayed until '94 at which point I moved to Crossville, TN(where I'm at now) to be close to my adopted parents. After dad died in Feb. '01 from cancer mom went in for heart surgery in the last part of March '01 and had a massive stroke a couple days later which would have been early April. I took care of her at home for 3 1/2 years then she went into a nursing home and pass away Aug. '09. I didn't know anything about being adopted until after her stroke while my wife and I were going thru papers looking for wills, deeds, ect. That's when at age 41 I found my adoption papers. I did some research and found my birth family in Harriman and after contacting my older brother Craig I reunited with my birth family. It was like we'd all grown up together, we had so much in common and it was really great to see my birth father. We've all been pretty close ever since.
Long story short, I live in Crossville, TN. :)

Born in 1977 and raised in the Backwoods of southern New Hampshire, in a town named West Swanzey. Picked up the Harmonica and started playing poorly at the age of 15. Played that way for a while, too.

Moved to Boston in 1996, While attending Boston Conservatory and New England Conservatory for an education in Horn. Stayed in Boston after my schooling, playing lots of gigs on horn, and the occasional gig on harp too. I moved to Hamm, Germany in 2005. Got back into harp 3 years ago after I rediscovered Howard Levy, and decided to start learning overblowing. Doing tons of teaching and playing these days, playing Horn, Trumpet, and Harp.

Ok,guess its my turn. This one's simple...
Born & raised in Ozone Park/Maspeth Queens. Now live in upstate -Hudson- NY about 40 minutes south of Albany,on the east side of the Hudson river.
Always liked the harp, but never played... then like a bolt of lighting the need to play hit me.thanks to Little Walter & SBW II. I picked up my first harp in mid July of 2010 (a Hohner Great Little Harp in C) and cant stop playing, I put down the GLH when I got my MB 1896/20 in key of A. Such a better sound..& I think Im stickin' w/ the MB's all the way.

P.S. Welcome to all you new member..Youve found the best place on the net. Enjoy. And Thank you Adam for all you have done for us new players. Your a God send man.

47 years old, and looking for new challenge. Tried harp briefly a few years ago but made zero progress. Latched onto Adams Youtube postings about 6 months ago, and a few weeks ago I dug out an old harp and bought his Beginner and Advanced Beginner packages. Amazingly am making steady progress and loving it!

Hi everyone

31 yo male living right on the beach in Coogee, Sydney (Australia)

I play harmonica in a couple of bands round Sydney and am constantly trying to learn/improve/work on my craft

At times I feel I don't practise enough, other times I have to avoid annoying people (re - Girlfriend) with my practise!

I've always wanted to be a comic book artist or draw cartoons - maybe even illustrate a childrens book.

I've been told I have a sick sense of humour but i manage to make people laugh. Sometimes I offend people (don't be) but I jest.

Hey everyone,

To introduce myself, I'm quite green with the harmonica. I was born in Oslo (Norway) and at the moment I live in Madrid. I've been playing the piano for about 16 years, and right now I'm having a lot of fun learning to play the harp, which has been something I have been wanting to do for a very long time! =)
