My name is Gant Eichrodt, aka Gorfalamu, aka The Harpoon. From Lacey, Washington (next door to the state capital, Olympia)I've been playing harmonica for 35 of the 38 years I've lived here. Still trying to get it right. I note there are few members posting from the Northwest; we have some of the best and brightest up here, including Lee Oskar, John Popper, Jim McLaughlin, Jay Mabin and many, many more. I hope to be one of those someday.

I'm new to the forum but hope to be of some use somewhere down the line. Currently in two bands, "Blues County Sheriff" and "Ham & Cheese on Rye." I play rack & guitar with the latter and a highly modified Excelsior with the former.

In the meantime, there is much to be learned here so I'll just sit back and listen. Thanks for a great forum!

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, spent many years in The Pacific Northwest, and the last 20 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

I consider myself a West Coast Blues guy, that way I can point to inspirations like George Smith, William Clarke, Lynwood Slim, James Harman, Curtis Salgado, Rod Piazza, and Rick Estrin.

My main influences were the Chicago guys: Little Walter, Cotton, Junior Wells, Butterfield, and my all-time hero Big Walter Horton...

I grew up in the barrios of Los Angeles in the 60s and 70s, my mom and dad were both ex-heroin addicts and ex-cons who loved music and had many Soul and R&B friends like Jimmy Holiday, Lou Rawls, and Sam Cooke. Their best friend, Jimmy Holiday, was a great Soul singer who is best known as a songwriter... he wrote: "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" with Jackie De Shannon. Jimmy, strangely enough, grew up in Iowa, where I am right now.

I was Born and raised in a small market town in Lancashire, NW England, called Ormskirk.

Studied Music in Liverpool (only 20 miles south of me)

Been a Tuba player, playing ALL imaginable styles of music, from Bach to Free Jazz (with HEAPS of Blues in there)

Professionally, I've gigged in about 15 countries, including USA & Canada

In 2010, I moved cross country to Norfolk UK, and 1 year later I married my wife, Jackie.

I also play Jazz & Blues Penny Whistle, Ukulele, percussion, and vocals. I write and arrange also.

Now, May 2017, I've decided to add Harmonica to the list.

I don't tour much these days, as I'm Disabled due to spinal problems, but I'll NEVER give up my music!!!

Been a Jersey boy my whole life. Originally from Wallington (a famous food market there that makes the best horseradish for kielbasa sandwiches). Afterwards, West Paterson. Got married and lived first in Moonachie, Garfield (3 different apartments). Returned to West Paterson recently. I love the fact I'm only a twenty minute drive to NYC. To me, no city like NYC at Christmas. I mean really... Who wants to live where it's warm in December and seeing Santa Claus in shorts (just trying to pull a laugh or two on that one).

Born and raised in North Augusta SC. I have been a blues fan since I was 17 and went to see a movie called Crossroads. I'm a complete newbie to harmonica my kids bought me a Suzuki Harpmaster for Father's Day this year. I'm struggling along with YouTube videos. I have a local guy I have been bothering to give me some tips. I don't get discouraged.

Living on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland Australia. I am a total beginner. I am also the proud owner of a Hohner Unsere Liblinge Harp c. 1938. It is not really a beginners harp but I am determined to try to do it some sort of justice. Just trying to figure out where to start.

I'm from right where Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma meet.

Jbone, are you making it out to any good jams around Tulsa? I would like to come down there and play a little bit. I did compete for Tulsa in the IBC a few years ago. But haven't had much chance to go back since.

@SweetBlood, We're just beginning to settle in. Flu is with us and now it's very much winter weather so we're staying close for now.
Late last summer we came through that area and stopped briefly in Joplin. We were looking at working at a resort on Grand Lake south of Miami but it fell through.
We're planning to check out some venues here in a month or two when it warms up. Meantime we'll rehearse here and maybe do some videos, and try to work on material for the next cd.

Jbone,

If you guys hit the road after the flu and winter pass, there's a venue in Springfield, MO that might be perfect for you. It's called "Pappy's Place." Neighborhood bar and bbq with big, outdoor patio. One of the oldest bars in Springfield, but draws quite a crowd (and the bbq is excellent).

I used to live down that way (now am about halfway between Joplin and KC). From what I recall of the place, I think Pappy's would like your music.

There are a lot of places to play in NW Arkansas as well Jbone. Pretty good music scene going on down there.

Rontana where have you been playing? Mostly in KC? Or are there some good venues around where you are? Let me know if there are any good jams. Maybe I could come up there and check it out. I'm just outside of Joplin.

I live in France but very close to the German and Swiss borders, that's North-East of the country. Loooooong time ago I used to play guitar and sing in a "post punk" or "new wave" group then almost gave up music totally and spent about 30 years crazed about motorcycles (I am now 65). I am an electronics tech by trade so I started to repair, build, and restore guitar tube amps as a hobby. This led me to come back in contact with fellow musicians and I am involved in several projects but more on the technical/logistical point of view (recording rehearsals, printing tabs/lyrics, fixing the rigs, etc.). That is when I picked an old harp I had laying in a drawer, and really was hooked ! This is how I eventually came across Adam's youtube lessons and he really helped me to achieve a "intermediate" level where I now can play 2nd position blues almost fluently and even start to incorporate overblows in my playing. I have the opportunity now and then to be invited for a short piece by fellow groups locally.
"Pardon my French", I hope I didn't make too many mistakes with my English....

Born in Crook , Co Durham, England and spent the first 20 years there, this is deep mining count being run down and shut down
Then spent 18 years in a pretty Market Town called Masham in the heart of the Yorkshire dales, think beer sheep and tourism
Then 15 in run down Redcar on the North Yorkshire coast whilst working in another ex mining village in South Yorkshire
Don’t get me wrong I am white middle class but there is still a lot of poverty up north in England in the the old mining towns and villages
And now Lamalou-les-Bains, France
Blue skies, cheep wine made in our valley
And wooded , steep gorge with the Orb river carving a route to the Med
And now I take up the Harmonica and life is good

We're getting some dates here in Tulsa and hoping to expand some. But the word is, if at all possible we're going to get back on the road next spring. For like the north in summer and south in winter. Great Lakes, New England, south Texas, north Florida.
Got that travel itch still!

Born and raised in Charleston, SC where a fiddle-maker named Wild Bill gave me a Hohner bluesband in 1988 and a decent Mel Bay spiral-bound song book. I Left SC in my early 20's with my hand-tweaked Special 20's (and that smelly Bluesband) headed to West Palm Beach, FL for a couple years, then 9 long months living in NJ before moving to Martha's Vineyard (an Island near Cape Cod - MA) where I sat in every once in a while and had a couple gigs with a band named Train Wreck and met my wife. After I left the Island I lived a year in Ipswich, MA. Then, I got married and I moved to North Andover, MA. My 9 month-old son has a Suzuki Airwave. He just bites it right now, but he'll be reading forums before I know it!

My band, Two Weeks from Everywhere, practices in Merrimac, MA and we busk in Newburyport, Boston, and Salem, MA. We had some steady gigs over the past year and are working on adding more originals.

I have accumulated a good sampling of gear and harps over these past few years since I've been playing out more. I enjoy working to hone my playing techniques and I'm thankful for my talented musician friends.

We are *ABOUT* to be from Lafayette Louisiana! Heading down from Tulsa in a few days with the new travel trailer and the plan to do full time on the road! Not sure how long we'll be there, at least a month, if it looks good longer, if I get a deal where I can work for lot rent along the Gulf coast we'll move along.
