Welcome aboard BC. Escape from NY! Where in Upstate did you grow up? I was born in Syracuse and I have, at various points, lived in Cortland, Ithaca, Binghamton and the Albany area. (As well as living in Florida, PA, and Maine).

I was born in Rochester NY. Grew up in the suburbs. Went to school up in Potsdam NY. Definitely familiar with those towns you mentioned. I moved from NY back in 94 after finishing grad school.
I stumbled across Adam's website over a year ago. Been studying his stuff since then. Just never signed up in the forum until recently. I also have been progresing through Dave Barrett's LOA program this year. Looking forward to the knowledge sharing in this forum.

Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA, home of Rutgers University.

Lived in NJ, PA, KY, NJ, PA and then NJ again.

Been singing in public since I was seven years old.

Guitar and harp for almost 25 years now.

Have fronted several bands; am currently seeking a guitarist with jazz/r&b influences for paid gigs (hint, hint).

Cut my teeth playing the streets in New Brunswick and all the rock bars and clubs in NJ and PA where they said original music and/or blues would get me no gigs.

Paid the rent playing originals and blues.

Love this forum... I've learned a lot already.

NY/NJ/PA harpers, I will post my band's upcoming gigs when we finish the lineup... sit-ins are most welcome!

OK, I was born in Chicago… 19 and 48… Sorry couldn't help it. :o. First heard the blues when I got a transistor radio for 8th grade graduation and started listening to Daddy O'Daly on late night AM radio… Daddy O's Jazz Patio…. still love that name. He would literally broadcast from parking lots across from blues clubs on the south side of Chicago. Talk to the locals and interview musicians on break. To a 12 year old white boy on the edge of town, it… blew the top of my head off. Started playing harp in high school and never stopped. Onward and hopefully upward!!

I'm from a small town near Wichita, Kansas. I've spent the last 10 years in the Boston area and started my harmonica obsession at the end of it. I just moved back to Kansas and am really missing the richness and accessibility of the Boston music scene, but this forum looks like it'll be a good substitute and keep me inspired.

EDIT: I removed TMI from this post: dates, musical actiity and other such things. Sorry. I have learned forum etiquette and changed my ways since then. To make Gnarly's later post relevant: I started busking & working bars in the early '70s in Ocean Beach & Pacific Beach (ie Jose Murphey's).

Oh yeah, where am I from?
Born in Oklahoma, Navy brat. Lived in California during most of grade school.
Moved back to OK for most of middle and high school. Made it back to California a couple of years after that, San Diego, and have been here (for the most part) ever since.
As it turns out, the US headquarters for Suzuki is right here. I have managed to become their harmonica repair guy. If my boss walks in the room and I am playing harmonica, I am not instantly fired. That's a bonus in my book.

Hi, I'm Jonathan, from the Netherlands.
22 years old and a blues harp beginner.

I was drawn into harmonica music by solo's in songs of Supertramp, "School" and "Take the long way home", the intro music of the dutch tv detective series Baantjer; "Circle of Smiles" by Toots Thielemans and the music of Stevie Wonder.

Right now I'm trying to forget about chromatic harps for a while, I expect learning to play diatonic harmonica will be enough of a challenge for a while and blues seems to me the most versatile and exciting way to play diatonic harmonica in the long run.

I hope to learn a lot from this forum and maybe help some beginners with questions in a while.

I was born in Dallas TX - moved to Chapel Hill NC when I was 11, started drums at 12, harmonica at 16 - left home at 18 and moved to Atlanta GA to begin my career as a professional musician; played drums in nightclubs, harmonica on lots of session work, jingles and such - music school in New York City in mid 70's - back to Atlanta GA - got married and moved to England in 1991, played in an excellent blues band there and on a couple of recordings - moved to Houston TX 1994 for my wife's medical residency - back to Atlanta GA where I currently live.

Welcome aboard everyone.

Ugly Bones, I got to see Pete 3 times in the last year he was around. The first show I ever went to my mom took me to because she was afraid he wouldn't be around much longer. He was in his early 60s then I think. :) Also saw a great tribute show for WAMC.

Hi All!! I am currently living the dream in Chesterton, IN. I work at UofC on the south side of Chicago. I've had harps around for say 12 years, but I just started getting semi-serious about sounding good a couple years ago. I play mainly percussion, but I must say lately it's been a toss up and I'm becoming more and more obsessed with the "Harmonica world" everyday. Cheers, Bryan

Howdy,

I was born on a farm in west-central Missouri, and at age 55 have just taken up the harp (via Adam's lessons). Have loved the sound most all of my life, but as is often the case, never seemed to get around to learning to play.

Lived around the country a bit, but the gist, chronologically

Missouri (various places)

Naples, Fl

Idaho Falls, Id

Pony, MT

Elk City, Id (which still gives me nightmares)

Falcon, Mo

and recently full circle, buying an old farmhouse in the area in which I was born to help care for elderly parents

Hey y'all!
Been lurking this forum for quite some time now! Finally decided I might as well make it official: Living near Charleston South Carolina after having moved from North Central Illinois - loved the blues scene up there and hated to have to leave it. But, making due down here. Looking to form a jump blues trio (or maybe a four piece).
Anyway, glad to be a part of this wonderful community of harmonica players!

Hey. I've been working my way through Adam's Youtube videos (I bought them so I had the ones that are missing from YouTube) for a few years now. Don't let that time frame fool you, I'm still a beginner at this! I grew up in a musical family, born in the Chicago burbs, then moved to Long Island, then back to the Chicago burbs, now I'm in the Philly burbs.

I've played pretty much every brass instrument there is, though I don't know the trombone slide positions. I can noodle a bit on the guitar, the tinwhistle, and a bit on the harp. I've had a dry spell in music for some years, a neck injury that's has me with limited mobility. But the harp is one way I'm keeping somewhat sane.

Hello all,

I'm in Hammond, Louisiana, which is about an hour outside of New Orleans. The Lone Wolf shop is in Ponchatoula, about fifteen minutes from my house. I grew up in New Orleans, but flooding from Katrina relocated me to Hammond. I have a degree in History(concentration in early American) with a minor in Music, and I am an actively gigging jazz/rock/blues bass player in the area. I've tried to learn harp over the last couple of years, but my commitments at the university/gigs prevented me from giving it a real go. Now that life is a little more simple, I'm going to try to really learn the instrument.

On a side note, I do think it's pretty funny that my entire life revolves around the harp, and I don't even play the darn thing.

Funny you should say that Nathan...you have a lot in common with Leo Fender in that respect, considering he invented a revolution of electric guitars and basses, but didn't know how to play a single note.

I consider that good company! Hopefully, I'll be able to tame the little beast with some time. I've played strings my entire life, so the harp just feels very unnatural to me. I love the instrument, though.
