Membership in the MBH forum is a privilege, not a right. We make it easy to join, but your continued membership is contingent, among other things, on your willingness to be honest about who you are and how you can be contacted via email.

We require that you provide your real name--first and last--and a real email address when you register.

If we discover--or strongly suspect--at any point that you have failed to provide us with truthful information on those two counts, we reserve the right to immediately terminate your membership.

We consider people who fail to provide real first and last names and working email address to be trolls. Trolls are not permitted to be members.

Moderators are already on the lookout for spambot registrations. I'll urge them here to make a point of occasionally checking the registered names and emails of random members.

We don't ask for much, but we do ask for basic honesty at the moment you walk in the door here, with the understanding that we will keep your real name and email confidential, and we require that you maintain that honesty for the duration of your membership time here.

Not too much to ask at all.

On the Mandolin Cafe we almost all use our real names as our "usernames". However, that might get confusing around here. ;-)

There needs to be a way to control abuse of the forum, an ocassional rant from a member is quite different that frequent personal slams.

Adam doesn't ask for much.

what about folks that go by a nickname since being a kid, like red?
or got tagged with initials like ej or junior?
or, maybe, they are in witness protection?
or was given a name like felony. (dont laugh. she was in the news a few years ago. for a crime, naturally. and her brother, also in the news, had something just as bad!)

Or... a military call-sign. (no thanks) Like most nicknames, you don't get to pick it.....

had a buddy that kept trying to pick out his own nickname all thru high school.
we started calling him anything that came to mind, sometimes something that really would be a cool nickname, but we would never repeat.
drove him crazy!

I just want to add that there are two (2) Greg Jones dudes on the forum..

As opposed to one (1) guy not using his real name.. There are two guys using the same.. ha.. we are separate folks, though...

Thx Mr. Adam for hosting this little neighborhood bar for us to tell and re-tell war stories..

Wow Rick, you look kind of grumpy in that second pic, kind of like the mean doctor on Scrubs, only with glasses!

It's funny, a few people have friended me on Facebook and I've had to try to figure out who they are on here. I might only have half as many friends in the world... some friends I have on here and Facebook might in fact be the same person!

One Christmas, or at least Christmas season, I decided that I was going to give one of my friends a nickname and not tell him what it meant. Looking in the fridge I saw some eggnog. That would have been too obvious. Instead I started calling him Nutmeg. It stuck! One of my friends let him in on the joke a few months later, but we still called him that until he moved out of the area.

LOL Nate, ya I think that 2nd pic is pretty funny. Believe it of not, I enjoy working out.

I just wanted to give a face to the name, even if it is grumpy.

I think the issue is more with registration than in posts. I've always felt that a large part of "trolling" on this forum came from the ability to go totally anonymous.

I don't mean you need to see people's pics and names in posts, but mods should have working contact info. I am sure there are people on this forum with more than one handle for not-so-positive reasons.

I understand why people don't want too much identifying info out there as a means of protection (I do it too), but it is helpful to all to have an idea where people are coming from and how to contact them if there are issues.

A lot of advice is shared here, but that doesn't make it good advice. Also, as someone who was targeted by a troll a while back, we don't all go asking for it.

Don't you have problems for playing harp, because of oxygen's rarefaction in high altitude?

I'm 6'7" too--I find it liberating--but I usually sit down to play harp--I don't know how you short guys stand it--blowing rocks into your shoes when you fart. . .

The introductions are great, but I think that the OP is referring to honesty when you join the group, so that the forum has your real name. It is not necessary that every one who reads the forum (which can be read by non members) know your name.

Hi, I'm Doug, and I am addicted to playing harmonica.

Nope, but when I play stages with low ceilings it sure seems like I get hotter and sweat more than the other guys in the band. It is really hot near the ceiling.

Yeah, as a clarification, we ask that you register with your real name and a real email address (try to keep it current too. If you change your email address update it (the private one, you don't have to make your email public). It helps keep out the trolls and helps us sort out any issues that come up. You won't get spam from us, and we won't be singing you up as organ donors. You don't have to post your real name for everyone to see, although you are certainly welcome to do so, but we want everyone to update it so it's there. It helps keep people from sockpuppeting and lets us contact you if there is a full moon related problem.

I hadn't thought of that!!!

I now have some pity for very little guys who play harmonica: they likely blow and draw the floor's dust!
