This is one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard, harmonica or otherwise. Dan's amazing vibrato is one of the things that really makes this track special. And his phrasing, which is unlike that of any other harp player I've heard. He also has phenomenal acoustic tone, sounding almost like a coronet at times...

Here is Dan's original version as a duet between piano and harmonica:

Here is an amazing cover by our own GreyOwlPhotoArt, who plays over Dan's original, and makes it sound like he and Dan are dueting on harmoncia (if you go to the video info, GreyOwl provides a nice tab too):

And here is my version for solo harp (my version is on an Eb harp, but Dan's original is on an F):

Enjoy!

Loved them all. Grey Owl certainly comes up with some real gems. I had not heard it before & now with Grey Owls generous gift of tabs it's now on my to learn list.

Couldn't get what you mean by 'coronet' perhaps cornet or more so like a clarinet?

@Aussiesucker: Yup, I mean cornet! Apparently I rely far too much on my spellchecker! :) It didn't underline "coronet" because it's a legitimate word, and with no underline, I didn't notice I had spelled the wrong thing! Silly me! But yes, I meant that he sometimes achieves a tone like a cornet out of an early jazz recording from the 20's...

@DevonTom: Indeed! In a conversation with greyowl on YouTube, I came up with the phrase "Complex but uncomplicated" regarding Dan's music. "Beautiful simplicity" could also be used...

Unbelievable tone & vibrato. My first attempts with my rarely (never) used F harp brought responses from my wife that I sounded like a cat crying......not good!

Beautiful Simplicity it certainly is but, it isn't easy!

@aussiesucker: Lol! :) But you are definitely right: it ain't easy at all!!! That's one of the key things I've taken away from my attempts to play this song: simple is beautiful, but simple isn't easy.
