Your thoughts: is a SESSION STEEL harder to play than a SP20 ? i think so because of the larger holes and the steel reeds . Have you tried a SESSION STEEL with 1847 coverplates ?

I used SP20s for years. I've been using Seydel for some time now. I don't have direct experience of the Session Steel however the 1847 Classic also has SS reeds and the holes are slightly oval. I've also tried the Silver which uses a plastic comb with "standard" size holes. I preferred the Classic as I like wood and the oval holes I found to actually be somewhat easier to play. The Silver is also a fine instrument with a tone that is very slightly brighter. Neither is harder to play that a SP20 and in my opinion the Classic is actually easier. ---------- LSC

Thank you LSC . I just want to know : is the SESSION STEEL as responsive as the SP20 ? Many people say it has brighter tone ...?

I play sp 20 exclusively, and recently bought two seydel steel sessions. They are great harps and very responsive. The only thing I dislike about the seydel is that they are thicker harps, and a bit awkward at first to play.

i have a full set of the 1847 silver + which is pretty much the same as the session steel. it stays in my gig bag that is what i use when i play out they are easy to play and have to my ears a very nice tone. the best thing about them. they are water proof you can have an adult beverage or two, and when you are done just rinse them out. they last a very long time. i have never had a reed go flat on one yet. i have however fractured a couple of reeds which i sent back to my good friend "os" who replaced the reed under warranty. how is that for service? i have another set of the silver series that i use around the house. i like those even better! the harps are a slightly larger and it does take some getting used too. i dont consider it a cover plate but rather a "mouthpiece" especially nice for those who tongue block. i also have 2 special 20s which i replaced the stock comb. with a hetrick comb one in mahogany one in corian. both of those are 2 of my favorite harps. they may play slightly easier. but if you are looking for easier, then i would suggest "woodshedding" i prefer a marine band over a special 20 but changing the comb gives you the feel of a marine band. without all the leaky air loss. having said that, i haven't played the new marine band deluxe. i bet they are pretty cool. but my money is with seydel. the stainless steel reeds and the customer service. are what separate the men from the "boys"

I got a Session Steel to try. Not as responsive as SP20 but longer lasting, IMHO. I gapped the reeds recently and it plays much better.

I bought a Session Steel, and like it--I think it is a good value. But SP20s remain my main harp. I really like the Olive HarpNinja sold me tho.

I ordered recently a session steel with 1847 covers from my french SEYDEL dealer ( DORTEL , also fine customizer) . Very nice harp , i think it's better quality than the SP20 : better reeds , better ergonomy , nice sound , and i suppose , more durability of reeds . I think i'm gonna join the " SEYDEL CLUB" . I have to sell much of my harps to buy the other keys of the whole set ! lol . Don't be afraid : this harp is responsive ,but you may need a little gapping to suit your way of playin' ,and a time for " making the reeds " , by playing .
