Another amazing young player to keep an eye on. He's only been playing 2 years and is already incredible. I like his attitude as well. Nice kid.
Not sure that I would volutarily choose to play in 7th position, though I can, and I know how difficult this can be, especially at the level that Konstantin displays in this performance. Simply amazing...
Right? He sounds great and does a fantastic job, but totally not the best position for blues for a number of reasons...so the technical feat is mighty impressive, but it just sounds so well done that the fact he was playing 7th is a moot point for me!
JInx posted a clip a while back that was very technically demanding, but it sounded so good it was very much an after thought. IMO, the best kind of technically-demanding stuff!
Of course we know from the many professional overblow-spotters here that his playing is, of necessity, riddled with thin, tweaky, squeaky, out-of-tune notes and is therefore, a priori, not the, ah, real blues. How pitiful is that!
Wow, this kid's got some f**kin talent! Seems like he's been a LOT of time in the woodshed. I like the vibrato he's got going on. It has something reminescent of Louis Armstrong and some of those old time horn players. I'm diggin it.
Though 7th position probably isn't most people's first choice for blues, There are definitely some benefits to using it. The main one I hear is that almost all of the notes are bent/overbent, thus offering flexibility and therefore more possibilities for expression in them. I think that's the main reason why this sounds so good. I hear a lot of control over nuances of pitch. It really takes a lot of control (Practice!) to be able to get these sounds to come out. That said, I think there's a lot of music yet to be tapped as far as blues in odd positions. This video inspires me to start experimenting more with more unusual positions for blues. Thanks for posting. ----------
