Just a reminder to the newer members and some of the older ones as well-once logged in on the forum, you can click "Account", then "Edit your user info" and add such things as email addresses, pictures, video, some verbage about yourself, stories, links, favorite recipes, et cetera. This information is visible to anyone clicking on your user name.

It uses HTML, just like posting on the forum itself, so you can refer to the Forum How-To page for tips and tricks.

Click on mine for an example.

I put a little something together. Made it a bit prettier with some html magic :) (didn't feel like doing css though that would have been more professional, haha) . Also made some modifications to my signature.

I just updated mine, and put my reverb nation widget in there...

@RyanMortos: That's a great idea finding your first post! I found mine too: http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/388856.htm?page=2 Looks like I joined up just about a month after you!

Oh, and FYI, if anyone else wants to find their own first post, I found mine by typing my username, the words "1 post" in quotes, and the year I joined into the forum search engine.

e.g: isaacullah "1 post" 2008

Ahh! Yeah your profile is more interesting then mine, lol. Weird, Isaacullah, I seem to remember you as one of the few guys left on this forum that helped me the most when I first joined. MBH was a bit of a different animal back then, haha. The way you found your first post is the same way I found mine (though yours isn't as embarrassing as 'how to bend', lol) , kudos!

BUMP

In light of the recent advisory thread Adam posted about giving a real e-mail and your real name to the admins, I thought I'd take the time to suggest that folks add some info to their user pages... This is a great place to add a website, post some tabs, a bio, some pics, videos, or anything else you want to "stay put" for other MBH users to find!

FYI, while you are thinking about it, you can also add a picture to every post by editing your signature line (click "Account" and then "edit you online signature"). You have to host your picture somewhere (like photobucket), and then copy the "embed" code to your signature. Make sure you resize it so that it doesn't take up the whole page! thumbnail size is best!

See, I've just fixed up my own signature picture!

Hmm, I can't get that 1 post trick to work. (Although with "1 posts" I found a thread on Simtropolis from 2008!

There are some strange links to dead pages in some Asian language with scraps of MBH conversations in the descriptions... strange.

Nate, were you using the forum search or a general google search? I had better results with the forum search for some reason....

please let's not encourage people to put loads of 'stuff' in their sig files. It increase the download time of pages and increases the amount of scrolling.
For example, Ryan's sig takes about half my screen. it is already shown twice in this thread. When someone puts a lot of posts in the same thread [and there is nothing wrong with that] we have to scroll past their picture everytime which gets a bit tedious.

this was my first repeat of a captcha :^)

Milolune, I tried it both ways. I was using Google with the @modernbluesharmonica tag. The forum search did it. Ah, there it is! May 8, 2009!

"Higher harps seem to be easier to bend on when you're just learning. I tried learning bending on a G harp and couldn't get a thing, then I tried on my F# and bam! Once I got some bending action I was able to figure out what it was I was doing and transfer it down to a lower harp after just a few minutes. I have some Lee Oskars, some Blues Bands, a Golden Melody (which bends real easy, but it's an F#), a cheap set of Piedmonts (which don't bend well but for the price still not a bad deal for a beginner), a Bluesband cover on a Piedmont (that one actually bends pretty well too) and some cheap cover on my Piedmont G (the cover is so thin it gets dented in my pocket.) Bendometer really helps with learning to bend, but I don't like their business model. I don't like the idea of shelling out more money every year for the same piece of software.

The Oscars seem to bend real well, but BEWARE! I think they are secretly designed by the same people who brought us Epilady. They rip out more mustache hair than a (well, I'll keep this PG, shoot I had something funny to say too.) I don't know why Oscars have those silly holes on the end. If you are facial hair free, or want to be, then Lee Oscars are a good choice."

In order, but not by repeat, there were posts by...

Ortrigger, Snakes, Philosophy, Preston, The Gloth, Aussiesucker, Germanharpist, Oisin, Max-T, mr_so&so, MrVerylongusername, Jonsparrow, then me, jawbone, Andrew, Miles Dewar, ricanefan.

Jonsparrow had the most post of anyone in the thread at 251, with Oisin close behind at 238!

@nate: I think we all know who has the most posts now!lol! ;)

@lumpy: I agree that oversized photos in the sig are a bit of a pain, but I really think that this forum will be a nicer place if everyone had a picture of themselves in their signature. It is my belief (based on my own experiences) that forums that allow little "avatar" pictures tend to be nicer places. I think it's a bit of psychology that makes people think twice about posting nasty stuff or personal attacks when they know what someone looks like. But I also think that a thumbnail is all that's needed, not a wallet size! :)
